This particular trip for my husband and me was really important to us because of the distance between holidays for both of us had been well over two years. Our expectations of being taken care of by management and staff in a positive manner was put to rest when we arrived and found ourselves with the management and a couple of staff meeting us at the dock, with cocktails on a tray offered and the first question, "Are you hungry?"
Getting to Palm Island from Toronto proved to be a very comfortable ride. We decided to stay over in Barbados at the Marriott Hotel because of the short time allotted to make the flight from Barbados to Union Island. And as it turned out, three planes arrived at the same time in the Barbados airport and we stood in line at immigration for one hour. We would have not made the flight and the stress would have been over the top. Therefore, we highly recommend this choice if you are going to Palm. So, tack on one extra day for your holiday.
If you are able the Island Lofts, numbers 43 and 44 are completely private with your personal view of the Atlantic side of the island, sandy beach and the coolings winds. We never had to use our air conditioner and the loft was terrific because of its aesthetics creating warmth. Overall Palm is just that and if you are one for the very modern look of vacationing environments, Palm is not the place for you.
The food was good and consistent. We would have enjoyed a 'change-up' with the dinner menus in particular(we were there for 10 days). We found the wine white and red to be not of our taste because of the quality however they do offer to purchase an excellent wine list.
Aside from the fantastic beaches, swimming in the ocean or the beautiful pool design amongst the palms the staff were fantastic and playful, if you will. Management wisely has initiated a sense of bonding between guests and staff through game playing on certain days of the week. One such game that I participated in was their game of Cricket. I am sixty-two, never played the game in my life and new little about it. The staff welcomed me and the banter began! The fun and laughter was witnessed between the staff and guests. Certainly a time out from the beach to either watch or participate may be an excellent choice. By the by, cocktails and food are offered at the big game.
Another suggestion is a visit too 'Happy Island' for an incredible lunch, rum punch and your cool host Jon'T. You must call ahead by two hours before you arrive and and let him know you want some his fine home cookin'!
Yes, our intention is to return to Palm the same time next year ... NewYears Eve! To enjoy the food, music, dance, and fire works!
