i don't think kenyanspecialist was being harsh when he said beach boys are lazy human beings.
Its true because I am a kenyan and one thing is for sure. there has never been a time when i have not met guests at a hotel who have not been given all kinds of sob stories by the beach boys about how they take care of 5 family memebers or how their brother has been kicked out of school or how their mum is seriously ill and in hospital and he needs to run to the village but has no cash......you fork out the cash and voila he dissapears and lies low for the 2 weeks while you are there.
seriously i'd like to hear from people who have never been conned by these lazy human beings who'd rather be beach boys than get work.
as regards the ferry from between 1am to 5am it runs once every hour and full time after that
it takes like 15 minutes to cross the channel( its not a river)dividing mombasa island and the actual mainland( south coast). its an experience( not the best one) but don't forget one thing....if you do come down in a charter flights as most tourists do, then you will be in an air conditioned coach and will not feel it.
I agree with those who say they shall be having beers by the pool before you check in, but then there is also such thing as quality. the hotels in the south coast as far more superior than those on the North coast.( maybe Nyali beach is nice and spacious but the rest are all concrete jungles.)
I think if you are coming down for 2 weeks you should spend the half hour extra on the ferry and then enjoy your holiday more.
my favourite hotels in Diani( south coast) are leisure lodge, leopard beach, sands at nomad, kole kole, baobab etc.
