Magnolia Hotel

Hi,

We're looking at the Magnolia Hotel for next year.

We see they offer half board & wondered if anyone has taken up this option & what the food is like.

We usually do self catering or b&b but thought we'd consider this option too.

Any info on the Magnolia welcomed.

Thanks,

leo

Hi Leo,

We've just returned from the Magnolia & would recommend that you go self catering or BB. We booked to go HB but the breakfast was so uninspiring that we never bothered to eat our evening meal there. That's not to say the food was bad but there were obvious things that would make a real difference.

Fresh orange juice rather than carton concentrate,

Fresh tomatoes rather than none at all & the occasional changes rather than the same things every day.

There are so many good restaurants in Katelios that are worth a visit , it would be a shame not to try them.

Hi Quilan, Would you say considering how reasonable the price of a double room is, that it would be a good place to stay B&B, We are not big breakfast eaters and like to try different restaurants for lunch and dinner?

Hi Hazza,

Yes, we would recommend staying there B&B but be aware there was no variation on a day to day basis. What you do get is fine to set you up for the day.... plenty of coffee, toast, scrambled eggs, bacon & beans although these were not always piping hot. Also, the usual cold selection, yogurt, fruit & cereals etc.

Price wise, we reckon it's good value for money.

Hi Quilan,

Thanks for your reply.

I think we will look at it as b& b . We like to hire a car & get out & about & may not feel like a meal in the evening.

How are the prices re food & drink. We did find Lassi expensive for Spirits & mixers two years ago. 6.50e a time. We like a couple of drinks in the evening but found it expensive.

Thanks ,

leo

We really loved the Magnolia, stayed there last year and are going there again this year. Personally I wouldn't take up the hb offer because the choice is limited although you could choose items off the full menu and pay the difference. Having said that we did eat in a few nights and thought the quality and price was good but there are several excellent tavernas in Katelios to try. As for drinks prices if you go on the hotel web site they do have a drinks price list. We're not one for cocktails etc so when we ate out we tended to just have a 2 glass carafe of wine which cost about 4 euros I think so can't comment on whether the Magnolia is expensive but their Happy Hour (2) is good value but doesn't include all drinks, see web site for list.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

We looked at the prices for next year & it seemed to have gone up quite a bit for when we were looking.

We stayed in Parga this May ,half board & the food was excellent. We were surprised at just how good it was.

Everyone was so friendly that we've booked to go back next May. Like you! We will get to the Magnolia at some stage as we love Cefalonia but as we had such a restful holiday this year we thought we do it again.

All the best ,

Leo
