katelios - Resort & Medusa apartments

Hi all,

Having just booked a 3 week break for next year, am hungry for

information, sorry the list is endless!.

Car hire, sunbeds, best places to eat, WiFi. Places to visit,

and just about anything else you can think of as a first time visitor.

Also is there a duty/tax free shop on landing at Kefalonia Airport.

Any information would be greatfully received.

Thanks all.

Hi Beverley,

If you post a few more details :- children? ages? when are you coming? then there is a lot more precise info we can give you.

Katelios is a very laid back resort with very safe beaches for children.Further to the east we like Kamina Beach that is even quieter.

The beaches around are the ones the Loggerhead turtles come to to lay their eggs.

There are plenty of car hire companies, Greekstone, CBR, Pefanis are three local ones that get good reviews.

Where to go? St Georges Castle and nearby Myceneum tombs, Argostoli, the capital for shopping, people watching, and a couple of museums, Mount Ainos but most people prefer to approach it from the north as the road is better, Melissani and Drogarati Caves, the villages of Agia Efimia and Assos, the town of Fiskardo, the west coast drive from Argostoli to Fiskardo, the drive over the mountains back from Fiskardo to Agia Efimia.

Small duty free shop open to people leaving the island only but it is not much cheaper, if at all, than the supermarkets. The main purpose seems to enable people to buy liquids (alcohol) after going through the 100ml liquid check.

Sunbeds were about 6 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella in May.

How is that for starters? As we have often visited the Katelios area many times during the day but never stayed there I will leave comments about Wi Fi and restaurants to others.

One warning. Do not come back again the next year otherwise you will become addicted to the island and keep returning!!!

Enjoy your holiday

Hi Travelbob31

Many thanks for your reply.

We are a family group of myself, husband and grownup daughter arriving

late June.

We plan on sun sea & sand all the way with some exploring thrown in

for good measure so your information is really useful.

I can think of worse things to become addicted too.

Thanks again.

There is no duty free now flying between EU countries. There are airport shops which have special offers but you can sometimes buy in resort cheaper.

Other things you might well like:-

1. Old Skala - a ruined village above Skala. There is a nice cafe/taverna there

2. Tarkasata - a similarly ruined village above Agia Efimia. Take the road towards Themata Monastry

3. Antisamos - a really nice beach near Sami with a couple of tavernas. The beach was used in the filming of Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

4. A ruined fort above Sami, further beyond the fort is a church and ruined monastry where more of Captain Corelli was filmed

5. Myrtos Beach - better seen from above than used as what looks like white sand is actually small pebbles and the swimming can be dodgy as there are strong currents.

6. The fort above Assos but start quite early as it is about a 40 minute walk and there is little shade around lunchtime!

7. The drive from Sami to Argostoli, stopping at the monastry of St Gerasimos on the way and the Robola wine "Factory".

The drive from Katelios to Sami going through Pastra rather than round the coast to Poros.

Over to others!! If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask !

Cheers

8. We like the "Three Island" boat trip which leaves from Agia Efimia

Hi, Just back , stayed in Medusa, great rooms very well equipped, hair dryer, kettle, sandwich toaster, small oven/grill and 2 hotplates, safe in room payable. Large tv, shower curtain etc.

There are sunbeds to borrow at the Medusaa as well as umbrellas, lilos and a selection of other beach stuff free.

The Wifi didnt seem to work there but had no problem at other places in resort.

I expect you have booked a one bedroomed apartment as we did, the one we had only had one balcony others had 2, also there was no door between the 2 rooms just an open archway, it wasn't a problem just wanted you to be aware.

Motor boat hire available also water taxi to Scala.

We did the coach trip around the island, booked it with Panem in the village, cost 25euros pp, didnt book with Thomas Cook as they dont go down into Assos which is well worth it.
