car parking in Puerto de Santiago

Is there a problem with car parking in the hotel or the resort?

Most people just park on the streets, it really depends on where you are staying in Puerto de Santiago. We stay at the Barcelo Santiago and never have a problem parking nearby, the same would go for the Tamamio Tropical

I have just returned from Los Gigantes and would say that there is a HUGE problem with parking in the Puerto Santiago area.

On two occasions we decided to visit the El Timon restaurant in the building next to the Barcelo hotel and were unable to find a parking space. We would have been happy to park on the hill leading down to that area but there was not one space to be had. The nearest available parking space was at the far end of the Las Rosas complex - quite a hike away.

I am surprised to hear that Joocy Loosy had problems parking but that maybe because it was later in the day if visiting a restaurant? we have always been parked up by about 5pm at the latest and have always managed to park in the 'circle' round the Tamamio/Barcelo. The hotel do charge for parking and certainly when we first went about 20years ago we did pay it but have not bothered for years now. A few years ago a large multi storey car park was built, part of an apartment complex but certainly when we were last there in Jan 11 it had not opened. Off on Tuesday 26th Feb, complete with hire car so will certainly post back here on our findings!

I think you will notice a big difference in the number of cars in the area around Tamaimo Tropical Lynne. We go to Los Gigantes 2 or 3 times a year and have done for more than 20 years and of course have noticed a steady increase in the number of vehicles over that time, but during our recent visit it was dreadful.

I think it's likely that a lot of the parked cars are from car hire firms and so are not even being used regularly.

The large multi-storey car park on the hill is still not open but is sorely needed.

The area of Los Gigantes is becoming similarly clogged with cars and the top road leading to the newly re-opened Royal Sun, which used to be very quiet, is really busy now.

Oh dear, hope we dont have a problem when we arrive on the 26th, as we booked last minute l couldnt get a package and so booked flight and hotel separatley which of course left the problem of airport transfers, l didnt like the sound of the Shuttle from what l read on here and a hire car was only a few euros more than a taxi so thought we may as well do that, l wouldnt normally bother if we are only there for a week, but it is nice to be able to go to Playa San Juan and also Garachicco is a favourite trip. As you say they need to open that Multi Storey, its strange it never opened?

The Superior Rooms are in the main building as you come off the road whilst the others are sort of underneath, the hotel is built into the side of the cliff so when l say they are underneath they still descend 4 floors to ground level. We always used to have a Superior Room but a couple of years ago we had left it too late and had to have an ordinary room, we actually prefered it. The slight problem with the Superior rooms is that they overlook the pools and the outside bar/snack bar and because of this there is always a bit of noise, not too much but they are sometimes doing games in one of the pools and there can be a 'buzz' around the bar particulalrey in the late afternoon, the other slight problem is that the cleaners come around the pool area quite early in the morning which if you have got your doors open and like to sleep late could disturb you. The other thing with the Superior Rooms is that they have refurbished bathrooms which are all made of obscured glass panels which l dont like, the rooms do however have Kettles which the ordinary ones dont.Although l prefer the ordinary rooms if there were only superior left l would happily have one, the most important thing is to make sure you have a Sea View room, last time we stayed we had Room 312 which overlooks the island of La Gomera and we found it very quiet with sun all afternoon in January. If you email the hotel and request to be around that area they will say they cant guarantee specific rooms but they will try to put you in that area. Sure you will enjoy it, we have been going on and off for 20 years now and lwouldnt stay anywhere else as the staff are so good, we are always greeted as long lost friends, even by the lady who fries the eggs for Breakfast!
