One day in St Lucia - what to see?

Cruising with one day in St Lucia Jan 10, 2012 - 'would love to find a non- crusie ship excursion to the Pitons, Soufriere, Marigot Bay - anyone out there recommend best beach (quiet, scenic) and/ or best waterfall? Anything else a must-see? Thanks!

If you've never been to St Lucia, I'd highly recommend a tour down the west coast to Soufriere - there are many operators offering this tour - by land and by sea as well as combination of both. Most every tour will stop at Marigot and at one of the beaches that has good snorkeling, some offer Diamond Falls & Botanical Gardens, others will offer Toraille Falls - all tours take you to Sulphur Springs Park where you will tour the dormant volcano and you may be able to indulge in a mineral / mud bath.

Thank you. I think we will go with a private tour and be sure to see the Pitons, Soufriere, Marigot Bay and hopefully some great snorkelling...some say Jalousie Beach has the best - or Anse Chastenet. Any opinions out there for best snorkelling?

Both are great, we prefer AC over Jalousie, but it's a toss up. Soufriere waterfront is also quite good, as is Anse Cochon at Ti Kaye and Anse I'vorgne south of the Pitons.

Enjoy!

According to a local boat operator we hired, the best snorkeling is along the foot of Gros Piton on the west side, just south of The Fisherman's Altar. During our last visit in June 2011, we found the snorkeling was better at Jalousie than Anse Chastanet. There's good snorkeling at both ends of Anse Chastanet beach.

We will be landing there in about 24 hours and are HUGE snorklers, spoiled by the excellent snorkling off St John in the USVIs. If you snorkle from shore will you see coral formations or just fish?
