Advise - car trips from Mogan

We are going back to Mogan in Sept - having been there for the first time in January. This time we are hiring a car to have a look around the island. Any advise on where we should go on our days trips from Mogan?

Thanks, Terry

If you want to get into the true (imo) Gran Canaria i would head inland both north and central .

Central ....Santa Lucia de Tirijana stunning mountain views the area is noted for its tomato production and fruit trees all framed by the crater of Tirajana .Also a nice museum to visit there is La fortaleza .other places with stunning views out that way ,Tejeda ,and the Roque Nublo ,Ingenio

North .....Alittle further north heading towards the coast is Telde has a very beautiful church San Juan Bautista Further north is Teror ,this is the most important place as its the religious centre of GC ,Pilgrims will flock there on 8th Sept .Fiesta Mayor in honour of vigin de Pino ,it culminates in a fantastic procession .The place its self is stunning ,fantastic architecture with its ornate balconies .These are just a few of the places which i would recommend a visit ,but each town ,village you pass through along the way holds such charm, beauty and of historic intrest .And some great local cuisine .

Of course this may not be what you want ,but its a pity to miss if you are hiring a car .If its shops you want ,and avoiding the heavy traffic of Las Palmas take the autopista to vecendario which has the atlantico shopping centre ,real shops not tourist stuff.the main road is one long one way system of shops mainly independant sellers ,fantastic value shoe shops along that stretch .Vecendario is on the way up to the airport ,easily seen in advance by the abundance of wind turbines .

hope you find some of this of use and from me ,Have a fantastic time

Agumes is a lovely village - up the motorway and turn left about Arinaga. Village square with cafes etc. Great bronze sculptures.

Go all the way up north to Agaete - the ferry leaves from here to go to the other islands. Fishing town, great fish restaurants around the harbour

Teror, yet another proper town with lovely church.

Fataga - Molino de Agua, just beyond fataga. Great food and views and a pool to relax by afterwards.

The roads are very wiggly once you are off the motorway and so everything takes longer that it may look on a map. Just to drive all round the island can take a very long day. Good to do, but you'll only do it once
