live from CDM or should i say building site!!!! |
|
Hi All Yes we are here at casa del mar and yes i am upset! arrived on 18 Aug 08 not advised about building work at CDM from thomsons and its like a building site. My favourite restaurant by the sea is shut down along with the theatre - loud workings going on there. The theatre show.is now shownn in 1 third of the buffet restaurant!!!! No restaurant Asian i think (unsure as not able to use) near block 1 as it was shut down when we arrived, drilling into the night so can here whilst eating dinner or walking along sea at all hours, so both ends of the beach you suffer from drilling and banging all day and night. The Lobby will be shut on 1 september lol its a total joke how they can send people to this hotel and they pay full price, i am disgusted. we now have two thirds of a buffet open, and restaurant next door changes to different themes but not open all the time, then the seafood one which is adults only - has had that ban lifted last night, but it doesn't cater for children no children menu The beach is what i booked, if the hotel was up and running it would be perfect, but it is not. Very upset, here till the 1 sept 08 and with limited facilities. fusspot Report as inappropriate |

Really sorry to hear that you are in the thick of things. Seems they have started some projects early. Baltobabe put a posting on about the timescales for the different works and most didnt appear to have been due to start until 1 September. This post has disappeared not too sure why? I have refrained from booking in December as according to the list when we arrived there would have been no theatre and the restaurants would be getting built in what was the old theatre. For this reason I have chosen not to go. Thomsons are still not mentioning any building work on there website. Once again sorry that you have had your holiday ruined a) because the hotel are too stingy to close for three months and b) Thomsons aren't honest with their customers. Enjoy the rest of your stay. Hopefully the weather has been kind to you. Dull and cloudy here today and we had loads of rain last week (that should make you feel a bit better). Report as inappropriate

I am aware that CDM is undergoing extensive renovations right now and I too and more than a lil concerned as when I booked (Sept. 2-Sept. 7th) it I thought I would get full use/access to all that the facility offers. However, upon hearing your review and others like it I am really hesitant about going through with it and may switch to a another resort. Unfortunately, I can't put off my trip til later when CDM becomes Dreams. I hope you can find happiness with the rest of your trip and the may the Sun shine on you until you return home!

I'm really sorry to hear you're not having a good time. As for future customers going, i think you're in a no win situation, only the tour operators are gaining. I had the same dilemma as I had originally booked the CDM last May (see my previous forum entries) and eventually decided to change hotel, which i did in Jan 08, and boy, am I glad I did! I had to pay extra to go to the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus and reluctantly paid the £60 admin fee (First Choice wouldn't admit to there being a 'major change' to the CDM resort!!). Only then did i start to look forward to the holiday, which was fantastic. So much so we've already booked again for next year at the IHD. The tour operators (and the hotel) shouldn't be able to get away with this, we're not talking of a couple of hundred pounds spent here, it's thousands... and all we want is a holiday of a lifetime....is that too much to ask...??? Hiya to all! So the saga of CDM(a.k.a Dreams La Romania!) is continuing, with holiday makers now arriving to find the resort IS a building site. Having monitored the situation via TA we(the wife & I) became concerned as we had booked the Dreams Resort for 2weeks in Nov 08. We booked through Thomson(UK travel agent) in July08. We booked a preffered club package at an extra cost, as we are partial to a bit of luxury! The total cost was over £2000. We were not informed of any building works. After reading the reports on TA we contacted Thomson and again they told us that they had no information regarding building work, and went on to say that we would lose our deposit if we cancelled. If we wanted to change hotel it would cost £35 per person, and if we changed to a different country it would cost a further £35 per person. A couple of days ago someone was kind enough to post the works schedule on this forum, and fortunatley I printed a copy. I then telephoned Consumer Direct(08454 040506) for advice. I was advised to take my printouts to Thomson and give them the chance to resolve the matter to our satisfaction.I was told that misleading advertisments are illegal and that they would be interested if we could not get satisfaction or our deposit returned in full. We went into the Thomson shop armed with our printout and when the agent checked her computer the resort had been 'flagged' with "advise customer of building work". This flag went on their system YESTERDAY! I smiled sweetly as the agent realised she was checkmated. We are now booked into a different resort,of a similar standard to the Dreams brand, with no admin fees and a sincere apology. It seems that the works schedule was the crux of our complaint along with the fact they didnt have info regarding any works until yesterday. I see the schedule has been removed from the forum and i would be willing to email it to anyone that thinks it might help them. This is the first time I have posted on TA and we would like to thank everyone that has posted on this issue as it has helped us make informed decisions. Our advice to anyone booked into CDM,alias Dreams! before christmas is to go elsewhere...good luck worms Report as inappropriate

Hi All Just thought i'd come on and check if there were any replies to my previous post - wow! I am a little calmer today it was really the dishonesty with regards to thomsons not informing their guests of work to be carried out, quite happy to take our money and let us get on with it. it seems that they are now informing customers now, but, no help to us. The show last night in the buffet room was funny, they had a makeshift changing room with a curtain that kept falling down, their isn't enough room for guest to sit down, the stage is the floor so those at the back of the room can not see the show properly. I do actually feel sorry for the entainment staff as they work so hard and they didn't choose the situation they are in. I have a meeting with the hotel manager today as i spoke to some top nobs who were walking around with the lobby plans and confirmed the lobby would close on 1 sept 2008 (the day we leave thank god). Though there are some who were not informed and never got to use the restaurant over looking the sea at lunch or use the theatre. There is no communication out here with regards to rep and holiday makers. He does a lovely standup welcome meeting but from there on he is never to be found. All English guests are not happy and obviously filling out the on site complaint forms but that doesn't really help us now! What really riles me is i spent countless hours on the phone to thomsons Departure centre and what a joke that was. The good thing is the beach is beautiful and the pool is lovely too, like i said if it was all open this is the hotel i would have loved. Also the people out here at the moment are really lovely, we have met some great familys/couples and that part has been the making of the holiday. The staff are lovely so we will have to put up with it and fight our cause when we return any advice would be appreciated on what is the best way to go about it. thinking about going around with a clipboard and getting all those peoples names who are in the same situation and doing it as a group thing i dont know. Anyway at least if i have saved a few people from coming and putting up with a building site then I am happy as we spend alot of money on these holidays and i will never travel with thomsons again after this experience. Though I'm not sure which travel company i can trust in future, you think that if you book independently you have no back up or support if something goes wrong, but hey ho, you have no support either way!!! Anyway, I am determined to enjoy the rest of my holiday just very mad with the whole situation. Fusspot Report as inappropriate

Hi guys now I know why Baltobabes forum vanished . Every one was taking copies and going to the travel agents. Well done BB. Hey nicky if you're reading this how about re-posting a forum with the list of works again. Might help some other unfotunates. Will email you direct with the suggestion. Hi Fusspot Soooo Sorry to hear about your situation . Do what ever you can to get as many people as possible to express their concerns, There's more power in numbers. Totally agree with what you said about "IF", That place could be absolutely PERFECT , Maybe if you'd been given the information and a little "sweetener" I.E A discount to reflect the lack of facilities things might have been a little more bearable. Hope you are at least having some good weather. Chin up Sparky Report as inappropriate
