Prices in Kalamaki

Hi All ,

Myself and the family are going to Kalamaki later in the year and were wondering on the prices out there so we can budget properly . How much is a meal and drinks also if you buy food in the shops are the prices the same as the UK . Just want to budget correctly don't want to be caught short . Are the trips good what is available and are there other places of interest to see as we have got a car booked for three days in the middle so we can venture out ourselves . Thanks is advance

Ok here goes.

Restaurants - Meals are about €4-6 per person usually, wine again about the same, soft drinks can be quite expensive compared to alcoholic drinks, i've seen small bottles of pop as much as €2.50.

Bars - beers anything from €2-3.50 for large bottle beer, Spirit and mixer €3-6 depending on if you have local make or named brand.

Supermarket food is much more expensive than UK supermarkets but there is a Lidl on the island about 10 mins in a car from Kalamaki so perhaps you could stock up.

If you got a car you can tour the coast of the island in 8 hours thats with a beach stop and a food stop.

Trips i'd suggest Jeep Safari, half day bost trip to the Shipwreck. If you had a car for longer you could do alot of the things yourself but we'll start with that and if you need more info just ask, no problem.

If we are up in zante town we like poking around the local shops, there are some great little fruit/veg shops and as its where the locals buy its very reasonable. Have often said if we were self catering we would be buying some fish/meat up there too. There are also some great bakeries where we buy a little treat now and then!

If you have got a car..try and make a visit to the cross at Kampi..there is a fabulous little old taverna there with breath taking views...and it is very very reasonable...we usually have one of their pizzas which are made fresh when you order them..and their house wine is wonderful especially the rose.

One word of warning though...take a towel or something to roll up and sit on ....the chairs are very old and authentically greek...but when you see them you will know why you need the towel :)

The ship wreck viewing platform is quite near here too...it is worth a visit...as is Anna Fonitria and Volimes for the lace table cloths and rugs.

Another favourite place of ours for lunch is Agios Sostis...a few Kilometers from Kalamaki with some great little sea side restaurants.

My advice...get in the car head for the hills and go where the mood takes you...

Have fun !!
