2. Re: where to stay

We were able to find a resort in Malapascua through the official website of the Cebu City tourism office. We contacted Bantigue Cove and were able to book there. They accommodated us at such short notice. And sent out a boat to meet us at the Maya Wharf. Bantigue Cove is far from the more popular Bounty Beach. So if you want a little privacy, Bantigue Cove would be ideal. Actually, aside from our group (we were 9 including children), there was only a couple who stayed in a cottage. The cottages are nice, the landscaping. The water is great, especially that quiet beach below the cliff. That's usually the photo posted on sites advertising Malapascua. The sand is white, the water cool and blue. But do watch out for jelly fish. The resort doesn't have a staff on duty at night if you prefer night swimming. But they assured us its safe to swim at night, which we did. The food is a little expensive though, by our standards.
