Question about driving in the Rockies

I just have a question about driving in the Rockies..... I know in many parts there is no cellphone coverage. But what happens if your car breaks down, for example between Banff and jasper? Are there emergency roadside phones?

no roadside phones but its still not a big issue. At Saskatchewan Crossing there is a pay phone and at the Icefield Center there are phones. The pkwy is patrolled by the park rangers who could radio in event of a problem but you most likely will have no problems.

There are pay phones at a few other locations along the parkway (some of the trail heads and pull-offs, etc.), and there are also warden stations at intervals along the way (we do not have "rangers" in Canadian national parks). But ... what did people do when they had a vehicle breakdown before there were cell phones?

One reason driving the Icefields Parkway in winter after dark is not recommended is because it is not patrolled after 4 pm, and traffic is extremely light. In summer, there are higher traffic volumes as well as wardens and other Parks Canada staff on the parkway.

Thank you so much. It's reassuring to know.
