Tour Guide for the Day

Hi fellow travelers-

My wife and I are arriving in Vieux Fort (Coconut Bay Resort) Feb 11th, for 11 days. While I have been combing the forums and have a handle on things, some feedback would be appreciated on these questions:

Seems that a private car (guide) for the day is a better deal all around as opposed to a taxi. What would we expect to pay for, say, a full day trip to Soufriere with stops on the way, etc? Do they take VISA?

Would Vieux Fort be the best place to get the guide ?

We often travel by bus in foreign countries, as much to get the local flavor as saving the cost of a car rental. Overall it seems that busses are not recommended (no schedule/full). Should we just pass altogether on getting around by bus? THANKS ALL!

Upon arrival, contact Nerv's Taxi and tours. They operate out of VF/C-Bay and offer excellent service. A full day taxi/car $ driver will run you around $150-$200Us, depending on hours, stops, etc. Generally, would have to pay in cash, can't say for sure whether Nerv's takes credit cards.

Buses do not run on set schedules- and in the south, are inconsistent at best - there is just not as much travel in the south. You can easily try taking one to Castries/Rodney Bay then take a cab back. The run from VF to Castries and further north to RB runs very frequently. Your best bet would be to head into VF early (8-10 or so am) and catch the bus up, your wait should be pretty low at those times, then explore Castries a bit on foot - Craft and Food market, etc then catch the RB bus and check out RB for a while, shopping, dining, beach etc then a cab home. A cab home will be $80US - cash.

Bon jou dukealumni,

With 11 days, you can afford some time for adventure on the public minivans... from CB walk south along Anse des Sables / Sandy Beach (30 min) or take a taxi into Vieux Fort.

Minivans line up for Castries (via the East Coast Route) in front of the football stadium in town. XCD 8/one-way per person.

Minivans line up for Soufriere (via the West Coast Route & pass by Laborie & Choiseul) across the street from the runway at UVF. XCD 6/one-way per person.

Jump on, greet other passengers with a "Good morning/afternoon" & when full up the driver will collect your fare.

You get off the minibus anywhere you want by shouting "stopping driver, please!"

Every land taxi owner-operator on rotation at Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) is a friendly & knowledgeable tour guide to take you wherever & whenever you want to go while on-island.

A full day island tour costs +/- USD 200/round-trip for 2 people (+ admission fees, food & beverages...).

Some car rental agencies also offer a driver for hire @ +/- USD 30/per day.

Land taxi fare Castries->Vieux Fort USD 80/one-way up to 3 people (+ after sunset).

Land taxi fare Rodney Bay->Vieux Fort USD 90/one-way up to 3 people (+ after sunset).
