Which is the best way to Santa Elena from Liberia in February 12
There are a couple of ways but probably the best way would be this:
When you exit the airport and reach the main highway, turn left. About 14 km from the airport, you will arrive at a traffic light. This is Rt 1, the PanAmerican Highway. Turn right - south.
Go through Bagaces and Canas and south of Canas, you will see a sign for "Guacimal." Turn left here and follow this road to Santa Elena. Another option is to turn at Abangares (before the turn to Guacimal) and go that way.
Agrre with Hattie,,,the Pan Am all the way to Rio Lagartos...all the way up to Santa Helena...or if you pass that one...just keep driving you will see a huge gas station...make a left there follow signs to Sardinal...and the to Santa Elena...
Just the last 12 kilometers are dusty...not big deal at all!
Thanks for the info, roll on Feb
Hi. How long is either of the drives? Time wise. Thanks.
It's about 3.5 hours, more or less, whichever you choose.
Do you need a 4 X 4 in Feb
Part of the last section of the road is a bit rough but you don't really need 4x4. Mostly, a 4x4 is useful because they are generally more sturdy than a sedan and have higher clearance. But not really necessary.
Thanks Mike A
Still not sure on route to Santa Elena, is it HW 1 turn left at Rancho Grande onto HW606 as shown on Costa Rica Travel Map.
Is this the best route from Liberia ??
Or is HW 145 better Las Juntas ????
Over to you for advise.Edited: 6:20 am, January 19, 2012
