Caño Island Landside Closed

I have the following letter from MINAET (Costa Rican Ministry of Enviroment) regarding Cano Island. I have translated it and only included the relevant info here:

"Caño Island Biology reserve land side will be closed from the 17th February for a period f 3 months. This is to comply with sanitary improvements (I guess toilet facilities and septic tank) requested by the Ministry of Health in resolution R-ACOSA-D-041-2012.

We confirm the marine part will be open for activities like snorkeling, scuba and navigation and if you like you can disembark at San Pedrillo in Corcovado National Park."

Yeah we will have to wait...

Just to add that as the tour operators are unable to dock at the island for lunc and toilet needs (the boats do not have facilities) they are having to cut down snorkeling to about 2 hours (plenty for most) before they head to a Corcovado beach ranger station for lunch and facilities.

Also please note if you are in poor health, heart problems, etc consider it will take about 2 hours before you can get medical attention from the island,

The snorkeling tours from Uvita to Caño have been amended to take into account that they Island can not be landed until mid May. This is a typical revised schedule (this one courtesy of Bahia Adventures). The price remains the same but you get to snorkel at Caño & Corcovado as well as time to explore San Jocesito ranger station beach and a bit of the park.

7.30 am Leave Uvita Beach (Marino Ballena Park)

9.15-9.20 am- Arrive in Caño Island start snorkeling from boat. Snorkeling will last 1 hour & 45 min to 2 hours.

11.45 am.- Depart to San Jocesito ranger station in Corcovado National Park for lunch and to use showers and toilet facilities.

12.20 PM. Lunch at Playa San Jocesito and rest or walk around.

1.30 PM- Guided snorkeling from the beach.

2.30 PM. Get back on the boat and depart to Uvita.

4.00PM – Arrive Uvita Beach Marino Ballena Park

Times are aproximate and can change a bit.
