I am from Asia and wonder if its a good time (not too cold) to visit in March?
I probably fly via Zurich or London, any there any economical flights to near airport and which airport is closest anyway?
Thx.

Mickey, it's so hard to say. Some years March can be mild and spring like and a truly glorious time to visit; other years it can be bitterly cold and damp with perhaps even heavy snow (such as Easter 2008). As always, outside of high summer, it's pot luck. Nearest airport for the low cost carriers would probably be Pisa but it's not that difficult to get to Montalcino from Florence either. Consider too Rome Fiumicino (FCO) as it's virtually a straight road all the way up the ancient Via Cassia.
Mickey,
As lastraniera says the weather is unpredictable in March.
If you want to avoid a long drive after the flight, you can train from Pisa in under two hours to Siena then rent a car for the 45 minute drive to Montalcino, Bologna to Siena is about 2:15. For ideas in the area see slowtrav.com/italy/tuscany/hs_planning.htm
Thx.
Pisa is the closest!
any low cost carriers for one-way travel?
Ryan Air, Easy Jet, Jet 2... it depends on where you are flying from.
March 2012 was fantastic. Mild and before the influx of most tourists
We were nearby in mid-March, 2011, and the weather was fabulous-perfect.
.. just an update: the weather is still fabulous !!
It most certainly is - I even have a slight suntan!!!
