Santa Teresa Taxi Availability and Cost

Hello -

We have been to CR many times and typically do not rent a car becasue it is just easier to pay $5ish for a taxi ride to/from the hotel in most towns. I am having a hard time figuring out if this will be the case in Santa Teresa and whether we should rent a car. We are staying at FlorBlanca (Northern end) and plan to mostly relax and enjoy the resort/beach. We do however want to be able to go to lunch or dinner easily each day without busting the budget. Any idea of the availability and possible cost for taxi's to/from town from FlorBlanca?

Thanks so much!

Taxis in Santa Teresa are not hanging out on a street corner waiting for a customer, you have to phone them and arrange the ride. They are not on meters and they have a set price. I think they are more expensive than in San Jose. You may want to give it a try and see if the cab route is the way you want to go. If it doesn't work for you, then rent a vehicle, Budget and Alamo have offices in the Playa Carmen area of Santa Teresa.

We just got back, stayed one villa over from Flora Blanca. While our property almost insisted we rent an ATV or car, we found it unnecessary. You can walk next door to Milarepa or to Rocomar for lunch or dinner. A taxi into crossroads (main part of ST) for 4,000 colones each way (about $8). A rental car is $60 per day, and an ATV is $70. You would need to go back and forth a lot to equal that out, and as there is no roadsigns or parking in many spots, it is a bit hectic for non-locals to drive. We rented a car for one day to go to Montezuma, and then stop at some spots along the way back, but generally we were very happy to use taxis. The hotel calls and the taxi was always there within 10 minutes. As for an ATV - No Way! It is so dusty that most people have masks, bandanas, etc. and are still covered in dust. I am way past the point of thinking eating dirt for 15 minutes and having to pay for it is fun!

Can somebody give me an approx. price for a taxi ride between:

Santa Teresa and Montezuma?

Sta Teresa and Mai Pais?

Sta Teresa and Tambor?

Do you have names, phone numbers to suggest, for this week?

If I understand correctly, it's preferabe to take a taxi than rent a ATV, Quads between those cities?

Thanks

I have no idea what a cab would cost between Santa Teresa and Montezuma, but from the northern part of Santa Teresa to the cross roads (Santa Teresa/Mal Pais) is approx. $8 according to WNYSue48503.

A cab from Santa Teresa to the Tambor air strip is approx. $45 - 50.

If you have at least 3-4 people with you, it will cost less for a cab. If there are two of you, you might consider renting a quad to explore around the area and do a day trip over to Montezuma. At least you will have your own transportation and you will not have to be calling cabs to get around for the entire day.

If you go to the following site (an online magazine for the area) you will find cab phone numbers.

www.peninsuladenicoya.com

or try www.nicoyazoom.com for more transportation contacts/choices.
