Santa Teresa vs Manuel Antonio

We have been to Manuel Antonio a couple times and absolutely loved it. However, we would like to try another area. Is Santa Teresa similar in plush rain forest, beautiful beaches and monkeys?

No Santa Teresa is very different from Manuel Antonio but even more wonderful in its special way. It has a fraction of the tourists that are attracted to MA which means there are fewer restaurants, activities and hustle and bustle. Many of the roads in the area are unpaved. Advantages include beaches that stretch for miles and are gorgeous, great for long walks. Accommodations are available beachfront unlike MA. The rainfall pattern is similar but there is less total rainfall at Santa Teresa/Malpais. You will need a car or rent quads to get around - don't count on taxis to get around as this area is very spread out. There is plenty of wildlife but it is not as acclimated to tourists as at MA so you have to be patient and wait for the guys to pop out of the canopy. Everything crfan says is accurate. And Santa Teresa might be what you're looking for. You might also consider the Osa peninsula, either Drake Bay or the lodges outside of Puerto Jimenez. Can't beat it for wildllife.

Totally agree with crfan and Eliot. Santa Teresa is also very different from the Osa and Drake Bay. Also depends on what time of the year you are planning your visit.
