Guide Recommendation/Referral

My husband and I are considering Santa Teresa for a week in November. I found this guide http://www.playasantateresa.com/ online (John Longo) and was thinking about using their services to help us with our trip. Has anyone used this guide before? Feedback? Thanks.

I never heard anything good or bad about them...but to avoid any headaches...ask for ICT aproval , if they are selling tours and tour packages they most be register with The Costa Rica Tourism Board...ICT...

NO ICT you really will be taking a chance if you send any money.

Personally, I think you can arrange any activities you are interested in when you get here through where ever you will be staying. It really isn't that big of a place or that busy in November.

If you really don't want to do ANY type of planning for your vacation, then sure, go ahead and let someone else plan it for you....

I have never met this person nor have I heard of this service so I cannot comment on reliability. Sorry....

TOTALLY agree with prior post...you can make all the reservations direct or just wait until you are here...it is slow season any way...maybe shop around could be the best...

Does this same thinking apply for December for booking tours??

Is it still slow or should we book in advance.

As well, from what I have read it is advisable if one has a car or transportation to just drive to said location and book directly as opposed to through hotel or tour operator??

Thanks

huntsie:

Depending on what part of December.

The Christmas break is very busy and everything seems to fill up quickly. If you are looking at doing activities during that time, you will have to make reservations a day or two in advance, depending on the activity and if you can actually do that (fishing or tours to Isla Tortuga need reservations, but the butterfly farm is first come, first serve).

It is not necessary to make reservations for activities months in advance.

The beginning of December is much quieter!

I personally would just go to the location rather than go through a tour operator, but many people are not comfortable with DIY vacations.

If you are coming in November to Santa Teresa its not as busy as it is in mid-December, of course, November is the month of transition from the ending rainy season to the starting dry season.

So, if you want to come from SJO by car, I suggest you to rent it in advance, you have an agency http://www.alamocostarica.com/ just 100mts from the airport, they may help you with maps and directions to get to Santa Teresa (5 to 6 hours drive taking into account that you get the ferry on time and don’t miss it www.nicoyapeninsula.com/general/boat.php ), if not you can fly from SJO to TMU (Tambor, 25minutes flight) and come with the rental car to ST, you will be here in 1hour(a cab will cost you $45 from TMU to Santa Teresa, if you do so, you also have a car rental in downtown)

Depending on the hotel, rental house or resort you will be staying at you would count on the service of concierge or not, if you do there is no need of a travel operator.

With mid price hotels you will have the help of front desk/reception for any sort of reservations for cabs, restaurants, tours, spa services, etc. Some of them are: http://manalahotel.com/, http://esenciahotel.com/, hotelnautiluscostarica.com/santateresa/home etc.

With high range hotels you will get the help of concierge , which means that you may be able to have your stay already scheduled according to your needs, wants and expectations, such as: http://www.redpalmvillas.com/ , http://www.florblanca.com/ , http://www.pranamarvillas.com/ , etc.

Here I leave you a link from which you'll get a better picture of the locations of hotels, restaurants, atm, phone numbers, ferry schedules, etc. : http://nicoyapeninsula.com/

Best wishes
