Swimming and snorkelling

Staying at the Hilton Papagayo in August. We will have a wide range of ages and although a few of us would love big waves and surfing, the majority will be happier with calm warm clean water to swim in. Will we find this at the Hilton? No photos ever show swimmers? What is up with that? If we do want to go to a better beach for swimming/body surfing one day, what'e the closest beach?

So some of you will be very happy and the others will have to take a boat or a car ride! :) There are no waves at the beach at the Hilton. It is beautiful, calm waters, great for swimming and there are even some boats on moorings since it's so calm. Perfect for swimming, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, etc.

For surfing, the nearest break would be Witch's Rock (world famous) reachable by 4x4 or boat, and Ollie's Point reachable by boat and then to the south by car, about an hours drive to get to Playa Grande and Tamarindo where you can rent surfboards, body boards and even take lessons if you like.

More experienced surfers go to Witches Rock and Ollies and beginners - advanced surf Playa Grande and Tamarindo. Great for body surfing too! :)

Thanks, Seabird. Pretty much what I figured. I'm just very happy to hear that swimming and playing in the water at hte resort is doable. That really is most important.
