The only way to do this by public transport is to go by train to Annecy, which may well involve a change, and then by bus up to Le Grand Bornand - the buses leave from Annecy bus station, next to the train station. But, it does take a long time ... a taxi is more expensive, but much faster (only an hour) and easier.

There is a taxi service in Le Grand Bornand called (no joke) I cannot give you their name, because it is a profanity in English (the word for a child of unmarried parents!) and Trip Advisor won't let me!! Email them at alp.ambu-taxi@orange.fr (telephone 04 50 02 20 64). It's €110-€140 depending on time of day, I think.

Or, I know an English official taxi company based in La Clusaz who will do a transfer from the airport to Le Grand Bornand slightly cheaper. Contact them through a website www.aravistours.co.uk.

Enjoy it - it's a beautiful village!

Thank you very much for the information :) Ill try to look it all up. Isnt it a little strange that you cant go there by bus but have to take a taxi???

Hmmm hopefully we are gonna figure it all out.

Thanks again.

A few things so you know if you come back in the future and for others reading this.

There is actually a bus in the winter ski season from GVA airport ... but for 3 or 4 people, the taxi is cheaper and gets people to where they are staying.

Remember also we are talking about 2 different countries.

In Summer, nearly everyone arrives by car as it is invaluable in summer, though there are some buses around the village in July/August.

How big is Grand Bornand actually? Is there supermarkeds, restaurants, cafees and shops? We will be living in a rented house so do we need to buy all the stuff in annecy or can we buy in Grand bornand??

Le Grand Bornand is a village, out of the ski season, there are only 2138 inhabitants:

You'll have a general view of the village here: images.google.fr/imgres…

(Be careful, I have to cut the link into 3 parts, there are too many characters)

There is no direct bus from Geneva to get there. the best way to get to Annecy is definitively not the train (as you would have to get to the train station in the city center first) but the bus. There is a very convenient bus service to get to Annecy from the airport.

Grand Bornand has a Super U supemarket at the edge of the village with a good range of food etc. You'll have no problem getting supplies.

Just to correct WalkingPhil as I live part-time in the village - the SuperU is actually in neighbouring La Clusaz. However, Le Grand Bornand has 2 modest Casino supermarkets and plenty of other shops/restaurants in the main village - and in the 'satellite' of Le Chinaillon there are further shops/restaurants only open in season (July/August + ski season). Also don't miss the Wednesday morning market in Grand Bornand.

Winetravelguides is quite correct. The chinaillon shop is a spar and strangely enough is bigger than the ones in Le Grand Bornand. There is a small market now in Chainnailon on Saturdays I think, maybe Sundays.

There are cheaper supermarkets on the way to Thones and even a Lidl in Thones itself.

I must admit I would have a car if at all possible to get around. The publc transport isn't brilliant.

Please get in touch if theres anything else you would like to know.
