Can we walk to or get a taxi to a good beach in Falmouth?

Just checking maps.google.com and it looks like Falmouth's about a mile wide. It looks like there's a beautiful bay to the left not developed and a peninsula to the right with some resorts.

We'd like to find a beach not overrun that's beautiful with some good snorkeling.

Can anyone help us out?

About a 4 mile taxi ride from the port is Time N Place. It's on the Peninsula east of Falmouth, next to N resort. The beach to the west of TNP is long and deserted except for a small area that hosts day trippers from the ships.

Thanks so much for the suggestion, n8urist. Time N Place looks to be just our speed.

A few questions:

1. How's the snorkeling there?

2. Is there any good beach to snorkel immediately adjacent to Falmouth?

3. Is there any way to hire a car/driver for the day?

Thanks so much for any input.

For a driver, just type in driver in the search box above this thread.

Same with any other questions.

Thanks again, n8turist.

I have since found a couple of companies who will rent us a driver.

Now I'm thinking, can we just rent a car in Falmouth?

First off, car rentals are quite expensive in Ja. By the time you pay all the fees and insurance, you'll be better off with a driver.

From the tone of your question, it sounds like you are going to be arriving on a ship for the day. Hardly enough time to see all the sights in the area.

Second, Jamaican drivers don't have any rules of the road. They are generally speaking the worst drivers you'll ever see. You'd be taking your life in your hands competing for road space with them.

Yowsa - thanks for the heads-up. Guess we'll hire a driver.

Now all, where's the great snorkeling near Falmouth?

We plan to go to TNP for the day on a cruise stop. I have seen a couple of comments that the taxi drivers don't want to go there. Any truth to this? Are taxis readily available? Don't need a driver for the whole day to go someplace a few miles from the port.

Don't be afraid to walk past the "approved" taxi stand that is tied to the cruise lines (read: kickbacks to take you where THEY want you to go) and find an independent taxi. There are usually plenty of them, they are safe, and they will be more than happy to take you wherever YOU would like to go. If you find a driver you particularly like, make arrangements for him/her to come back for you at an appointed time to transport you back to the ship. Many of them will do this for you.
