1 night in Newport on way to Maine

55 yr old couple; traveling in June. Looking to spend the day and night in reasonably priced hotel off 95, near Newport.

We want to visit the cliffwalks. Any recs along 95 near Newport for good hotel lodging, priced under $200/night?

Along the 95 corridor, there is a new TownPlace Suites in North Kingstown, 20-30 minutes from Newport. From there you can also take a nice drive on 1A through Wickford Village to Newport. The only other options would be to stay in Middletown, the more affordable alternative to Newport, only 10 min away. But hotels there they still might require a longer stay, or will likely be more costly than the Townplace Suites, I'm pretty sure.

The issue is that Newport is not along the 95N stretch. Hillside's suggestion is good, or you might try taking 138E off 95, staying at the Holiday Inn Express near the 138/Rt 1 N intersection (in South Kingstown) then continue on Rt1 N/138E to Newport. Holiday Inn is about 20 minutes from 95, and about another 20 minutes to downtown Newport.

Be aware that the Cliff Walk sustained some significant damage from Hurrican Sandy; check on its status before you go.
