Lockett Meadow is considered to be among the best places in autumn.
How much time should I allow to get there from Sedona? Thanks for your response.
An easier drive than Lockett meadow is to go up the road to the Arizona Snowbowl. About two thirds of the way up there is an obvious aspen grove with parking on the left side (as you go up) of the road.
That sounds great! I will be traveling alone so the easier the better...lol. Would you be able to give me specific directions please? Thanks so much for your time.
Allow 90-120 minutes to get up into the mountains above Flagstaff
In regards to directions to the aspen grove on the way to Arizona Snowbowl, take Highway 180 out of downtown Flagstaff and the road to Snowbowl will be marked. Here's a map: https://goo.gl/maps/M6T6PVgPTJn
The road to Lockett Meadow doesn't bother me, but it's a 1.5 lane dirt road that has a lot of exposure in places with no guardrail. Not for the faint-hearted driver. Just saying. Snow Bowl road is paved and from Flagstaff, anyway, will take you about 20-25" to drive to the top where the ski resort and ski runs are. There should be good photographing along the road. However, I'm sitting typing this, looking at the south side of the mountain right now, and the aspens haven't begun to turn yet. You might call the C of C to see what the colors are doing before driving up here, or coming from wherever you are.
