Okay, all, I just found the answer to one of my questions from pstreet1, in another post, so here it is, to anyone else who may inquire: THANK YOU, Pstreet1!!
Use Priceline.com Do your research first on
www.biddingfortravel.com The biddingfortravel site will tell you which hotels Priceline uses in each city and the *level of the accomodation. Then go to the biddingfortravel forum and read what bids Priceline is currently accepting for the city, part of the city, and *level you want. You'll save a lot of money and stay in better places.
Radisson Woodlands , Embassy Suites
2 ½ Star
Amerisuites Flagstaff Interstate Crossroads , Residence Inn Flagstaff , Holiday Inn Flagstaff
La Quinta Inn & Suites, Fairfield Inn Flagstaff, Inn Suites,
Radisson Poco Diablo Resort, Hilton Sedona Resort & Spa (previously came up as 3* but likely now rated Resort)
You can see that the hotels Priceline uses are of good quality (except perhaps the Fairfield Inn in Flagstaff--so I wouldn't bid on a 2*hotel in Flagstaff if that one is bad). If the bid is accepted, you'll get what you bid on: 3* or 2 1/2* and it will be one of the listed ones.
Then go to the biddingfortravel forum after you've looked at the hotels and see what bids are currently being accepted:
In Sedona the Hilton is going for $75.00 a night and Poco Diablo (I've stayed there; it's nice) is going for $65.00 a night. The Radison in Flagstaff is going for $58.00 a night.
