I am in Providence on business upcoming. I am looking for some good, authentic Italian. I prefer the more mom-n-pop places as opposed to the trendy. But I just want good food mainly, people watching is optional. I have heard that federal hill has lots of choices.....any suggestions?

Cheers,

Brendan

Definitely Federal Hill

Check out Andinos for Lunch/Dinner

or Venda Ravioli (more than just ravioli....more of an Italian Market/Cafe....but they close early, so mostly Lunch.

I suspect it's too late for you, but in case anyone else comes searching the forum - Joe Marzilli's Old Canteen is total "What your Grandma cooked" Italian food.

Now, I think a lot of people would not call this "authentic" as it's more homogenized/Americanized than the now trendy Tuscan or Sicilian cooking, but it sounds like what you are looking for.

Cassarinos on the hill is the best.

Also, About 5 miles south in Cranston is Marchetti's.

Huge portions

Angelo's on the hill is traditional pasta with red sauce. Very basic, and cash only. And despite the remodeling, they still have the model train running! Caserta's for pizza. The Old Canteen is also red-sauce RI traditional.
