Bear Paw Cabin on the River... save a trip!

We stayed in Bear Paw Cabin on the River in Sept. We had a horrible experience!

We had 5 nights booked in this cabin, we stayed only ONE - Let's start with our arrival. We were sort of surprised to see that Bear Paw Cabin on the River is right on busy Hwy 34. The river is the only thing that seperates you from the road. So if you like hear cars, trucks, etc race by then this may be the place for you.

Cabin has an odor. It is a combination of musty/methane. The cabin has a septic system and you can certainly smell it (the smell is even addressed in the directory the owners have in the cabin)! Sheets on bed and sheets for futons were not clean. Long black hair on the bed sheets (cleaning lady does not have black hair!) and pillow cases smelt of a ladies perfume. The pillows (all 2 of them) that were provided for the futons were flat, stained and stunk.

The "best" part of this "quaint" cabin is the mouse that chewed through our hamburger buns that were left on kitchen counter! You can also hear the mice in the walls. I can guarantee you that if you book your vacation at Bear Paw Cabin on the River you will be in for a real treat. How is that for relaxing?!

The pictures on their website are so cute! That is sad to hear. Where did you end up staying after your one night?

The pictures are cute! Unfortunately cute doesn't always mean clean. The owners kept our first nights stay AND a $75 cleaning fee! We asked for the cleaning fee to be refunded, but she refused. They really are not running an ethical business =( I hate that a review cannot be posted on this rental.

We ended up staying at Streamside and we were very pleased with the accomodations. The staff was extremely nice and went above and beyond.

So a lesson learned =)

Not the same place!!! Individual homes/cabins reviews need to be placed on the forums.

Wow, sorry for the misguidedness. It is a shame there are two places so closely named. It would have definitely misled me into believing the wrong one was bad. Thanks for pointing it out.

It Happens Khawnee! That's why I stuck the web link up there.

That's ridiculous! You left because the place was not clean and they charged YOU a cleaning fee. Well let's hope now it will be clean for the next person, consider it a civic service! I'd be mad too, at least the rest of the vacation was not a bust! Were you able to go over Trail Ridge Road or has it closed?

Yep, pretty peeved! But yes, we got lucky and found a decent, clean, rodent free place and went on to enjoy the rest of our vacation.

We were there the beginning Sept (12th) so both Trail Ridge and Old Fall River Rd were open. Our kids loved Old Fall River and we saw a lot of wildlife! We usually go to Estes the beginning of Oct but wanted ride the tram this year. Just our luck they closed the tram earlier =(

Oh and yes there are several places in Estes Park with the name Bear Paw. That is why I made sure it the title read Bear Paw on the River. Thanks for including the link to the correct place. I was not sure that was allowed.

We are thinking about a trip to RMNP this upcoming summer--thanks for the post since this was one place that we might have considered. (We were considering Alaska again but took a hit with our finances thanks to the lousy economy!)

My husband and I have stayed in many, many cabins in lots of different places. We've learned that we cannot leave food out when staying in a cabin. You should always assume that there will be mice. So, we keep items like bread, cereal and crackers--anything with a wrapper or box that a mouse can chew through--in a clean, dry cooler, or in the refrigerator.

Mice are one thing, and cleanliness another. And for me, highway noise is the pits. But there's no excuse for having to put up with "used" bed linens!!

Thanks again for the heads-up!
