Albuquerque-Santa Fe travel itinerary

A friend and I will be flying in to Albuquerque in the first week of April of 4 days. We are interested in the beautiful landscapes of the southwest and Native American culture. I have been to Albuquerque and Santa Fe many yrs ago - and so have seen the art galleries in SF, been to Taos, etc. So on this trip - I was looking at Tent Rocks, Bandalier, El Malpais and El Morro. Questions for NM DEs-

1. Is this a good choice of areas to see given our interests? Any other suggestions or should we eliminate/substitute these for any other sites?

2. What would be a good itinerary to cover these areas of interest?

3. How much time should we budget for each location?

4. What will the first week of April be like in terms of the weather and accessibility to the places that we want to visit?

Thanks in advance!

The day you fly in,spend the night in Santa fe. Next AM. off to Bandelier & perhaps,Los Alamos. Back through Santa Fe, to the 16 into Cochiti Pueblo & Tent Rocks. Back to the I-25 Passing Albuquerque, overnight in one of two Indian casino hotels(or Grants). A Morning tour of Acoma Pueblo. Back to the I-40 & on to the 53 to El Morro. Continue in the PM,to Gallup. Day three, East on the I-40 to the 117 South to El Malpais . Continuing to Quemado & perhaps, spend the night at Lightning Field near Pie town or Socorro ...Day Four back to ABQ to rest up... carracar

Petroglyph is a fun run-through, but you don't have to budget much time for it. It is just off I-40 and you can do a nice hike in an hour or two.

best and easiest way I know is to go to Ramah, New Mexico (city), then click on El Morro, (things to do) and then find my post (first one as of now) and click on the 75 reviews next to my handle NorthGeorgiatraveler in the ElMorro review, it should take you to all the recent reviews I did on our week plus trip to New Mexical last month and earlier this month...hope this helps...we did not do a trip report per se...since you were interested in El Morro and El Malpais in your question and I had just been there, I responded. best wishes

Thanks NorthGeorgiaTraveler. Will follow the links. I have found Forum posts invaluable in planning my trips in the last couple of years. Once I have a fair idea of what we want to do, I check in with the TA DEs to see if our plans make sense. It has worked out really well for us and I highly recommend doing that!!!
