Half way to Albequerque

Is there a good half way point from Albequerque to most of these other attractions?

*Carlsbad Caverns

*Antelope Canyon

*4 Corners Monument

*Chaco Canyon

*Taos

*White Sands NM

Heading west - maybe spend a day or two near Alb. to see the balloon festival but would really like to see the other sites. Would like to spend no more than 3 hrs. (one way) driving. Is it even possible to find a semi-central location?

Hopefully,

Lenore

Keep in mind that New Mexico is the 5th largest state. There is no semi-central location to see the places on your list. How long do you have for this trip? It would be best to spend a night or 2 near each location, there really is not much in between.

Antelope Canyon, Page AZ, Monument Valley, Four Corners Monument are over 7 hours from Albuquerque. Best to base out of Page and or Monument valley for those 3.

Carlsbad is 6 hours from Albuquerque, you could base out of Cloudcroft to see Carlsbad and White Sands, but really way too much driving. Best to spend a night in each place.

Chaco is 3 hours from Farmington and 4 hours from Albuquerque and really in the middle of nowhere. There is a small b&b in Cuba which is closer to Chaco.

Taos is in a completely different direction than all of the others above.

If you head north from ABQ, Santa Fe (the state capital) is halfway between ABQ and Taos.

Thanks so much for your reply and suggestions. Coming from our small east coast states, I knew I was wishing on the wind with this request!

Yes, coming from the East Coast, you would be surprised that NM is huge. You can drive for almost an hour in many directions and see almost nothing but gorgeous sky and mountains.

You might want to focus on one area of the state. The most common is the ABQ-Sanat fe-Taos route, which is a bit less than 3 hours in each direction and has plenty to do. The southern/southeast route (Carlsbad, White Sands) is much more empty and spread out. The Northwest route (4 Corners, Chaco, AZ) is also a very broad area, less populated, with an number of Native American ruins.

You could probably do only one area if you want to do it at a good pace, not pedal to the metal.

You're right. Guess I'm trying to see too much in too little time. It's not like I can't go back... just don't know when that might be.

So many places to see, so little money to do it with!
