albuquerque restaurants some advice please? |
|
my daughter and i will be in albuquerque next may for 3 days of our vacation.we have been to albuquerque before but would like to try some different places this time last time we ate at el patio and the flying star cafe.i have been doing some research and if you had to decide between sadie's and tito and marys which would you pick? how about the standard diner and slate street cafe? is the new restaurant jennifer james 101 expensive i could not find a website. we also love thai food or vietmanese so any good reccomendations appreciated. last but not least i will be visiting cake fetish i love cupcakes!! thanks everone marie |

For me, Mary and Tito's over Sadie's. I would say M & T's probably does one of the best red chiles in the city, if not the best.Don't expect anything fancy, neither are particularly upscale, especially Mary and Tito's. I might also recommend El Modelo as fun, local and cheap, but it does only offer take out or outside seating ( which should be fine in May ) Standard Diner is good, we've eaten there a couple of times. Never been to Slate Street. Jennifer James 101 is bound to be on the pricey side for Albuquerque, Graze was. We have not tried it but would expect it to be good and worth a splurge. My favorite Thai is Thai Orchid on Central and for Vietnamese we love Cafe Dalat.

thanks for the reply.no problem i really don't like to go to real fancy restaurants or pay their prices. i like to have food on my plate not just a little speck drizzled with some sauce. hubby and i are going to oahu next month and we will eat at cheap local places none of the high end places we did eat at roys once it was very good but i felt very guilty spending 140.00 with tip on one meal. thanks again marie

Well, I was really disappointed in Cake Fetish! I have been there twice. I got a mixture of cupcakes (don't remember which ones - there are so many!)and only a couple were good. Most of the others were quite bland. My daughter went there one time also and thought they were lacking in flavor.

And *I* am going to Oahu next month too!!! Short trip with my best friend (just us, no families!) 2-8 Sept. We are staying at the Hale Koa (military hotel on the beach). Where are you staying?

For "patio" dining experiences in May, I'd recommend you try both Casa de Benavidez, 8032 4th NW, and El Pinto, 10500 4th NW. Their prices are reasonable, and the food and "environment" memorable. My favorite Thai restaurant, is a little place called Thai Tip, 1512 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Anything but fancy, it is located in a small strip mall. Excellent food, and low prices. Always a great combination! Cake/Cupcakes? ABC Cake Shop, 1830 San Pedro NE.

Well, you and your daughter enjoy your trip here, to the Land of Enchantment!

I will throw another patio place at you, for breakfast ( but not open on Sundays ) Barelas Coffee House on 4th Street which I just saw is ranked #7 in TripAdvisor and for good reason. They make a mean Huevos Rancheros.
|
Of course, when you're talking NM food, you're going to get many different opinions as there is so much to go around. My preference is Sadies, but that's just me. I also really like Casa de Benevidez on 4th street; great patio dining and good food. Try Garcia's (the original on Central) for a real kick in the pants. We actually have quite a few great Vietnames places around here, but my favorite would be Cafe Da Lat, which I believe was mentioned earlier. Thai Orchid is also one of my favorite Thai places, along with Siam Cafe, which is on the other side of town. Bangkok Cafe is also a good option.

I agree with Garcia's -- great food! For a more upscale experience, we really enjoyed Artichoke Cafe. Great food, good service, excellent wine list and may wines by the glass as well. Price was great value too!
