We just returned from a short trip to CC. We stayed at the Navy-Lodge on the Naval Air Station in CC. It was very nice. If you are military, I would highly suggest staying here. It was nice, clean, new, and a great view!

We spent time on North Padre by the pier, Port Aransas, and went to the Aquarium. All were nice. The sea weed was a little of a bother, but much better than the last time we went. THe beach in port aransas was a little on the dirty side. I liked North Padre better.

We ate at Snoopy's, Two George's and La Playa. All were very good. Snoopys is a great place for casual dining. THere boiled shrimp (heads still on) are soooo good. So is their cole slaw.

Two george's offered lots of options. It was very tasty. Great crab cakes. It is a toss up between Snoopy's and La Playa for my Favorite meal. La Playa has a wonderful dish...can't remember the name. It was on the seafood section of their menu. It was 1/2 an eggplant deep fried and used like a bowl. It was filled with shrimp, scallops, crab, and crawfish. It was coated with a queso/pico mixture. It was wonderful and I don't even like eggplant.

It also had rice and beans on the plate ....yummy! There hot sauce wasn't very good, but the seafood plate made me forget about the sauce.

If you go to CC anytime soon take mosquito spray. They almost carried us away!! It was a nice trip and everyone we encountered was very nice. CC coulc stand to hire people to mow the sides of their roadways. It looked a little trashy. However that didn't change the enjoyment of our trip.

Thanks for the report TXJ. I leave tomorrow for a week - with bug spray. Can you tell me where you mean when you say, "North Padre by the pier"? I really want to swim in the Gulf, but I don't have too much time since this is a business trip. I'll see if I can get my co-workers to try La Playa. Last time I was there, all I seemed to eat was grease!

Did you have a lot of rain? It seems that every day's weather report says "afternoon showers", and I'm hoping they just blow through.

Make sure your bug spray has plenty of deet. I started out with the OFF "kid friendly" bug spray and the mosquitos had it for an after dinner drink!

The La Playa we went to was off the walden exit on the service road. for SPID. From what a local told me they are not all created equally. Not sure about that.....we only tried the one.

To get to North Padre you will take South Padre Island Drive (SPID). I think the number for that road is 358....not sure. But every one knows SPID. Take it toward the JFK causeway bridge. It is a big bridge that passes over Laguna Madre (water area). Snoopy's is under the bridge....great boiled shrimp. (Look for the Big Sand castle on the left. It is a large souviner shop.) Once you cross the JFK bridge just stay on that same road. You will see an exit to the left for Mustang Island and Port Aransas. Keep going straight, don't turn there. The road you will be on leads to the Padre Island National Sea SHore. All the beach accesses will be down roads to your left. I don't remember how far down the road is you turn on to get to the beach area by the pier. Most of the entrances are just a paved road down to the public beaches. It is probably 3 entrances down. You can tell because the entrance looks a little more official. It has a couple of roads leading down to the beach at this entrance (one is an exit). The parking is at the end of the road right by the beach and near the pier. Don't make my mistake and park in the area where there is sand. I thought everyone else was doing it so it must be ok. I got stuck! There are areas that are paved.

Have fun and enjoy your trip.

If you want a great place for a cool treat, there is a yummy ice cream/smoothie/fruit place near there. If you turn at the exit I metioned for Mustang island, it will be on your left. It is a bright colored building. I think it is right behind a gas station and it has another souviner shop behind it. It also has a spanish name.....just can't remember it.

Sorry I forgot about the rain question. It rained on us the morning we left. It was beautiful the other days. I did hear from a few locals that they have had a very wet few weeks. Hopefully all will be clear for your trip....or at least for the times you are off for play!

Hi shelley

Dont have any pics on the computer to post but you should be able to find lots of pics if you do a search. We moved here from San Diego about a year ago and have not had one regret! I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the area. South Texas is Fabulous!!

To Queen: The mosquitos aren't bad right now. However, if we have another round of heavy rains, we might have another explosion in the mosquito population. Keep your fingers crossed for some dry, cool weather!

To Shellie: I have some pics for you, but don't know where to post them. Anyone know where/how I can post some general Corpus that aren't really related to a particular attraction?

Queen,

Greekgirl is right about the mosquitos. They are predicting a big front to arrive this Thursday night. Temps will drop to low 70's during the day for Fri and maybe Sat. . Thats 20 ldegrees less than we have been having! Mosquitos are worse out near the river or near standing water, creeks, etc.

If you go to Bayfront area try City Diner and Oyster Bar. Their Nueces River snapper is melt in your mouth delish!

They just re opened the Art Museum and it is very nice. What part of Oct are you coming down this way?
