OK here is our take on this ,and i can give you a good list of reasons its a great idea .
We have travelled from the UK to Utah for the past 6 years for christmas , you'll also find that SUV's are pricey and in short supply (thats the first givaway)
They are in demand as for the conditions in cottonwood canyon(we ski alta and snowbird) can be very bad if it snows (last trip 128 inches in 2 weeks)
Having the extra space is great and with teenagers and equipment you'tt want it ,
Lots of the carparks have slopes to exit and if it snows hard you won't get a 2wd out without chains .
You have a huge city with all the restaurant's and movie theatres you want just down the canyon , and the restaurant's are more varied and better value
we want ever year a full size SUV for its extra size , i think if you don't you may regret it
Not saying you can't do it with a 2wd ,but why have the hassle .
