Fun activities near Frederick

Hi, I am looking for a fun activity for the weekend for a group of adults. We were thinking possibly tubing in Harpers Ferry or Kings Dominion. Any other suggestions? A little travel is ok, any ideas would be much appreciated.

I'd recommend tubing over KD. It's more fun, IMO, and much closer. 30 mins compared to 2.5 hours.

For outfitters, I'd recommend River Riders.

Some good trails for hiking: Appalachian Trail, Maryland Heights, Sugarloaf Mountain...

There's also Flying Dog brewery tours on Saturdays, reservations are required.

Some very, very good wineries are within an hour's drive, both in MD and northern VA.

The Frederick Keys are the A+ affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Their stadium is within walking distance of downtown Frederick.

And a lot of good bars and restaurants in downtown Frederick.

Hard to get a handle on what is fun. Tubing and KD are kinda polar opposites in terms of relaxation. I love the wineries. Also, Luray Caverns, also all things HF, also hiking, also biking, also whitewater rafting in PA, also baseball....

If you like hiking and the outdoors, you might enjoy Catoctin Mountain Park (which is managed by the National Park Service). The park has some good hikes, offers easy access to Cunningham Falls (which is the state's largest cascading waterfall), and is less than 20 miles from Frederick.

If history is of interest to the group, then Harpers Ferry, Gettysburg, or Antietam may be of interest. Each is close to Frederick. One of the nice things about heading toward Harpers Ferry is that you could also rent canoes, kayaks, or tubes (as you were contemplating) or go hiking. You could hike to Maryland Heights from Harpers Ferry, and you end up with a nice view above the old town. Harpers Ferry is also close to the casino in Charles Town, WV.

Frederick itself also has a lot of offer. It has a surprisingly good selection of restaurants and bars, and the Flying Dog tour would be a nice afternoon option for fans of decent beer.
