We'll be in Atlanta for a long weekend the weekend (Fri - Tues) prior to Easter weekend. Because we just purchased a home and are in the process of selling another, we needed to do a decidedly budget trip so we ended up (via Priceline) at the Westin Perimeter North. It was a four star on Priceline and we got it for $55 so the reviews are about what I expected (old, tired, needs renovation). Ordinarily the hotel would probably be a bummer but I knew what we were getting when we bid so no worries there. Budget was really paramount for this trip and we'll be back to Atlanta again.
Our plans for the weekend (four day trip) revolve around doing what our autistic teen enjoys as the move has been difficult on her. We'll definitely be at Six Flags (open that weekend and we have passes). She also loves riding commuter rail type things so Marta is on the list. IKEA for sure and maybe an art museum. We're foodies and bookstore lovers as well. It's the three of us - our daughter is a high school junior.
Is the area still relatively safe? Could we walk to the Dunwoody MARTA station (looks to be about 0.7 miles on Google Maps) or should we drive and park?
If we decide to do some shopping, are there better malls than Perimeter?
Any great unique grocery stores or bookstores? We'll definitely be at Whole Foods once or twice. I should mention that we live in small town Florida so just being in a big city is an experience. That's why places like IKEA are so much fun for us.
Thanks for any help. I admittedly have done very little planning/reading (due to the craziness of moving) so please forgive me.
