Eating and drinking in Springfield

Will be in Springfield next week for a few days of work. Looking for recommendations for great eats: anything from fine dining, to best-kept-secret hole-in-the-wall, to local-institution diner. Any good Mexican? Vietnamese? BBQ? And what's that I hear about the horseshoe sandwich?

Also, any great bars for a late-night decompression session? Local beers?

Thanks!

Springfield has several "local institutions" to choose from such as the Cozy Dog Drive In or Krekel's Custard. The best horseshoe sandwiches were from the old Leland Hotel which no longer exists. Many restaurants around town have their own version such as D'Arcy's Pint. You can now get this thing made all sorts of ways with all sorts of toppings.

Keep in mind the horseshoe sandwich has got to be 1500+ calories!

1500?? We'll have to split it 3 ways. And still we'll have leftovers!

What else is good?

Not to say the horseshoe is that big, it's all the fattening ingredients and CHEESE SAUCE - but yummy!

We've also had good luck at the Brickhouse Grill, Maldaner's, and The Feed Store (all downtown) and Nick & Nina's atop the Hilton Hotel.

Joe Rogers chili Parlor for chili. Magic Kitchen for great authentic Thai food. Darcy's is good for Horshoes and a lot more.

Well, we came, we ate, and the verdict is: Favorite meals: American Harvest Eatery, Sebastian's Hideout. Very decent lunch at the Feed Store. Good breakfast at Cafe Moxo, but I wish the coffee had been better. Biggest disappointment: Obed and Isaac's had very decent beer, but terrible food.

And the horseshoe sandwich? Maybe next time.

Glad you enjoyed your eats and drinks for the most part. Definitely try the Horseshoe next time.
