Is walking at night safe in downtown area (e.g. around Springfield Hilton going about 7 blocks in either direction)?

Hi! I have lived and worked in Springfield for over 30 years. And yes it is perfectly safe to walk at night downtown. You should always take care as you would anywhere at night. It is not a high crime area. And other than a few bars that are open in the evening there is not much to do downtown.

The only area I would walk at night from the Hilton would be to the west as far as the train tracks which is 3rd street. Hilton is on 7th st. As previous post there is not a lot to do there. Most bars will be on 5th st.and restuaraunts on 5th and 6th. Itialian restaurant is right behind Hilton on 8th and Monroe, called Saputos.

I have been to Springfield numerous times on business and have never felt uncomfortable as a woman walking around alone at night or any other time.

Although you didn't ask, another reviewer mentioned Saputos. I've had several business dinners there and never thought it was all that, but obviously opinions vary.
