First Time to Seattle

Hi,

This is our first trip to Seattle and we will be arriving there on 22nd morning from Portland. We planned to spend 2 days in Seattle and then maybe take a day trip to some where outside. We thought about Mt Rainier but not sure if its too cold there at this time of the year. Another option we were interested was in seeing the Christmas lights of Leavenworth (not sure if it starts during Thanksgiving or later). Does this seem doable or not ? Any other day trip suggestions are also welcome. We wanted to leave WA on Sunday afternoon so that we can reach Portland by early-late evening.

Some of the things that we have planned for in Seattle are Pikes Place, Ballards Lock, Pacific Science Center, Aquarium, Boeing Museum, Space needle. We may take a City pass for these attractions.

Is there anything else that we are missing here ? Any other suggestions. We are also looking for inexpensive hotels and saw some near the Seattle airport and in Bellevue Area. Are those very far away from the attractions ? We will be having a car and do not mind driving around 20-30 mins to reach the places.

Boeing Museum? One is at King County Airport/Boeing Field:

Museum of Flight A world class museum, for all ages. http://www.museumofflight.org/

Or, do you mean Future of Flight, in Everett, at the Boeing plant?

Do not stay at the airport. It is very far from Seattle and is in an industrial area completely lacking in charm and amenities. At this time of year you should be able to get a decent rate at a downtown hotel.

I grew up visiting my mom's family in Seattle/Fremont area. We loved walking/biking Green Lake and shopping in the Fremont/Ballard area. There are so many wonderful places to eat and it's such an awesome area. Deb

The Fairmont Olympic is a nice hotel in downtown Seattle. I have seen great rates for this hotel on Travel Zoo. :)

As Kaleberg says, don't stay at the airport...and ignore the inappropriate advertising posted here. Bellevue is also not ideal if you want to see Seattle, as you then have to contend with commuter traffic getting back & forth across the lake, and if you take SR520 there are tolls (and in a rental car, potentially large surcharges from the rental company). With limited time here, make the most of it and stay somewhere in the city. If you can't find an acceptable rate downtown, look to some of the surrounding neighborhoods, like Capitol/First Hill, Lake Union, Silver Cloud near the sports stadiums, etc.

Thanks all for the responses. Sorry I was not able to post sooner.

We have booked Hotel Andra for our stay there. Since we are coming there on Thanksgiving, we need to figure our where we can have our meals and what else is open for us to see/do.

Am glad that we decided to stay closer to downtown so that we can walk out and have a quick meal, coffee rather than having to drive all over the place especially in downtown.
