Charter fishing in February near downtown?

Can anyone recommend any charter boats to go fishing in Seattle in February? I'm going to be there the 2nd weekend of February. It looks like the only thing you can really fish for then are blackmouths (juvenile chinook salmon) or possibly steelhead?

Also any good ideas for getting from Downtown to the docks near Sunset Hill? Seems like a taxi costs around $30 one way so maybe I might as well rent a car for a day? Doesn't look like the light rail goes near there. What are the buses like?

Thank you!

Have you ever been in the Pacific NW in mid-February? It's not the same as fishing the waters around Catalina Island!

Some brilliant insight there oregonpoppa. Unfortunately, none of it has anything to do with my questions.

I don't think oregonpoppa's response is that unreasonable. February in Seattle is very rainy, cold, (often with a decent wind chill), grey and dank. Temps will hover in the 40's to maybe low 50's, with lows in the 30's. Not all visitors realize that.

I would look at the following, both leave out of Shilshole, north of downtown, and yes, a taxi would be the best option.

Would you ever consider fly fishing? Rivers east of Seattle are good. There are others I can recommend if that is a possibility, but start here:

There are no buses that go to Shilshole anymore, unfortunately (there use to be but it was discontinued).

Thanks for the links IslandGrl. I've found both of those sites (as well as http://www.seattlesalmoncharters.com) via google but I was hoping someone had actual experience with any of the guides. There is a lack of reviews on most sites that I've looked at for whatever reason and reading testimonials is a lot more informative than just a website.

Not looking to fly fish on this trip but perhaps in the future so I will keep that link handy.

Sounds like buses aren't an option so we'll just rent a car for the day since a $30 rental is better than $60+ in taxi fees.

Chiming in from serious fishing country here, I'm not sure the fleet is even in town. Lots of fisherman are in Dutch Harbor that time of year, doing geoduck or sea cucumber diving, working on their boats or kicking back in Hawaii. Seriously. February is not the time of year you are easily going to find a charter. As for charter fisherman testimonials, I get asked that all the time. By and large they just don't care about having a reputation on the Internet. They have plenty of work without it. Most of the guys I know who are charter fisherman in Alaska have been doing it for decades and their age and experience speaks for itself. Given that they often work out of Internet range, it's not a big part of their lives. Talk to a charter fishing agency, get a recommendation, and go fishing or not, but looking on the Internet isn't the answer in this situation.
