suggest restaurant near Paramount Theater on Pine St

A group of us are planning to visit Seattle in October and would appreciate some advice on where to go for dinner near the Paramount Theater on Pine Street. We've got tickets to a show there at 8pm on a Saturday. Thanks!

Do you want fancy, fun or?

Kitty corner across the street is Dragonfish. They have great deals at happy hour on small plates. It is called Asian fusion. They have a sake bar, but also cocktails.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse will set you back a few $ for dinner. The burger they have in the bar for happy hour is one of the best deals in town, however. It is in the Paramount Hotel, a block from the theater and across the street from Dragonfish.

There is a restaurant in the Olive 8 hotel right near by that also has happy hour deals (can you see a theme to how I usually dine, pre-theater?). It is a very nice place and worth a visit.

Some places will give you a discount with your theater ticket. Look on the STG website to see if there are any tie-ins. Palomino is a few blocks away, but gives free parking with theater tickets, I believe.

You are not far from Capitol Hill to the east/uphill, and there are many choices in that direction as well. They are a little further if you are walking.

I just ate at Terra Plata a couple of nights ago and it was excellent. It is at the Melrose Market which is .2 miles NE on Pine Street just after you cross over Interstate 5. When you get to Minor, turn right and walk to the corner of Pike.

Terra Plata is Tamara Murphy's new place (she previously owned Brasa) and just made Bon Appetit's top new restaurants list. It is farm to table local seasonal Pacific NW cusine. We shared a range of dishes including Galician style blistered Padron peppers (likely from Full Circle farm), chanterelles, cured meats, duck breast with cous cous and slow roasted pork with chorizo, clams, potato, chicharrónes and pimenton. They say that they have dinner until late Tuesday through Sunday. I'm not sure how late but that typically means midnight or later. Depending on when you are going to get out of your show you may want to call.

Sitka and Spruce is also in the Melrose Market building. This is another top place for creative Pacific NW cuisine. They take reservations until at least 10pm.

If you want drinks in the area after dinner Still Liquor Distillery is just up Pike. Still Liquor is in the Melrose Market building, Bar Ferd'nand (a kind of French/Spanish tapas bar) is a good place for a glass of wine and at Pine and Melrose is the Pine Box, one of the most exciting new beer bars in town -- owned by the same folks who own Brouwer's in the Fremont neighborhood.

Bauhaus Coffee is also at the same intersection (Pine and Melrose) and is open until 1am.

I second the Dragonfish in the Paramount Hotel on 8th & Pine. Haven't eaten at Ruth Chris in the Grand Hyatt, so can't comment on that one. For Italian there's Machiavelli's at Pine & Melrose. For Spanish there's Tango at Pike & Boren. A number of shops, bars & restaurants in Melrose Market: http://melrosemarketseattle.com/

Really there are many downtown restaurants within walking distance, so you have a multitude of options. If you can offer what type of cuisine you like (or avoid), then we can better offer suggestions to your taste.

For some reason I was thinking you were going to eat after dinner but the recommendations I made above would also work before dinner too. You can eat at Sitka and Spruce from 5:30 and Terra Plata at 5pm.

The web site of the Paramount has a list of nearby places to eat:

http://stgpresents.org/paramount/hotels.asp

I've tried just about all of them at one time or another. I like Urbane and it's so close. They have a good happy hour, too.

If you've always wanted to try Morton's of Chicago but don't want to pay regular prices their pre-theater dinner at $49.95 is a good way to get a good meal at a more affordable price. For some people a fifty dollar dinner is never a bargain so that may not be for you.

Ruth Chris's happy hour is a great bargain and the food was delicious.

I would like to know more about places open after the theater, klsalas. We usually end up at a bar or at 13 Coins, because they are open late. You can't guarantee being at a place by 10. Usually it is 10:30 or even later, considering transportation.

Dragonfish is pretty good, and Ruth's Chris sometimes has "early bird" specials for pre-show dining. Machiavelli is probably our top favorite in that area, but on a Saturday night, since they don't take reservations, you would have to be there pretty early to make sure you get a table in time to eat and make the show. I'd be there at 5 p.m. if the show is at 8. There's also the Cheesecake Factory nearby, but again, it's usually packed and you may have a bit of a wait.

Good point about the timing, OregonJohn. I hate getting stressed out worrying about getting to a show on time and would rather have a little extra time in between. If you get there later, the places are full and you won't get seated quickly.

Even though it is very early for dinner, I have learned you have GOT to eat before, or you'll be starving by 10:30 when the show lets out! It isn't an option to sneak a granola bar at your seat during a live theater show... too much crinkling and crunching.

Thanks for the list of late dining options, klsalas!
