Seattle - Canada

3 Adults from Australia on our first overseas trip and will be spending 10 days in Seattle in October. We would like to experience a little of Canada with a 2 or 3 day tour.....would love some suggestions on tours or the best way to go.

Thank-you Trish

you definitely don't need a tour as all cities are laid out especially easy for tourists. Look at

clippervacations.com

as they will put a pkg together for you but you really don't need it. I'd take the train to Vancouver as it follows the coast and its really quite scenic. Once in Vancouver you can do a city tour easy enough. its a very compact city and easy to get around without a car. There are many companies that will pick you up and take you to Victoria. Pacific coach line is the major one. You could either just take the bus right into downtown Victoria then arrange a bus to the Gardens or do a city tour. After Victoria the Clipper will take you right back to downtown Seattle, its really very easy to do.

I like the Queen Victoria hotel in Victoria. Its right downtown across from the Empress and reasonable, walkable to everything including the boat back to Seattle and across from the bus station where the PCL bus will bring you.

Have fun

Just as well you wrote back, Katzgar. The literal minded can be a tough crowd.

Trishbee, what do you hope to see? Western Canada is enormous. Vancouver is a beautiful, exciting city with wonderful restaurants. The city has some of the best Chinese food in the world, and there are cutting edge South Asian restaurants as well. Vancouver also has a gorgeous setting and interesting neighborhoods, parks, and museums. The mountains of Whistler are nearby.

Vancouver Island, which is where Victoria is, has some of the best hiking in the world and exquisite little towns like Tofino and Sooke. The city of Victoria has its fans and its detractors. It is very self consciously "Olde England" in parts. Some love it, some find it artificial.

You would enjoy your trip more if you read a little about British Columbia and its many attractions. There is so much to see there.

Seattle to Vancouver is $36 if booked in advance. Business class is $13 more. They allow 4.5 hrs but normally a little less. They put in a time factor for the border but its normally on time. Leaves early morning and arrives at 11:45. Station in Vanc is right downtown so a short cab to any downtown hotel.

Katsgear is a unique sarcastic wit. Even with my sarcastic streak some comments go over my head.
