Hi there - My husband and I will be moving to Seattle in 6 weeks(ish) with our one year old daughter and we need to find a nice place to rent. I know nothing about Seattle and have no idea as to the best areas to live in with a young child. Hubby will be working for Boeing in Everett, so we don't want to live too far away and him have to commute far - please please can somebody give some suggestions on nice areas to live!!!

Many thanks

Dee

Check the Everett(SE area)/Snohomish/Mill Creek area. We had a lot of Boeing engineers in our old neighborhood (Gold Creek)in Snohomish. Very nice and we miss it terribly! There is a wonderful YMCA there, and the area is very family friendly. Some very good schools too.

Lucky you! I made the move the other way around--Bellevue WA to England-- a few years ago and am planning to move back I miss it so much.

Try-www.forrent.com www.apartmentfinder.com-- they have lists of rentals, most rentals are in "complexes" which have things like pools and jym facilities, American apartments are lagger than average 3 bed houses in the UK and all come with cooker fridge and often a dishwasher and washer/dryer.

It's so beautiful out there, you'll love it.

Edmonds, Washington would be a nice place to live. It would be close to Everett (15 miles) so the commute would not be too far. You could easily take the Edmonds-Kingston ferry over to the Olympic Peninsula. It is fairly easy to get from Edmonds to downtown Seattle (depends on traffic). I like the waterfront and the downtown area in Edmonds.

You may want to look into the Seattle Hill Road (south Everett) area east of the freeway in the heights just before the road descends to the picturesque valley on the way to Snohomish It's about 4 miles east on the 128th street exit off Interstate 5. A bit farther on are Clearview and Lord's Hill south of Snohomish off Hiway 9. You can find homes in a more rural setting that come with that far- from- the- maddening- crowds feel.

Something you might want to consider as your daughter grows older..this is horse country with many homes on multi acre lots.

These areas are an easy commute to Boeing in Everett.

Best wishes on finding just the home you are looking for and welcome to the Pacific Northwest.

Edmonds is a lovely community, with a cute/quaint downtown area, but it's about 1/2 hour from Everett. It may also not be the least expensive option, but it's a great area. Here is a site with some pictures/info.

The best way to figure commute times is www.mapquest.com (you can just enter city names if you don't have exact addresses.)

Edmonds is a nice town, but 30 minutes to the Boeing plant is overstated, even in the worst of traffic. DH grew up there and inlaws are still there.
