Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort

Is the Sheraton a nice hotel? Doe anyone have any input on this hotel? What is there to do near by?

Is it good for 13 and 17 year olds?

THANKS!

The Sheraton is the best hotel in the Kona area followed by the Outrigger.

Lots of ocean activities leave from Keauhou bay, on which it sits.

You can get a daily shuttle up and down Alii drive.... things are spread out

You might consider the Marriott as a alternative as it sits in the Huge Waiakoloa Beach resort with shops and beaches..... but distant from the best water sports.

I just stayed at the Sheraton KB.. sept18-21/05..

The property is huge.. but the location is remote.. some distance from the highway, and some 15 minutes from Kailua-Kona, and ~30 minutes from Kona Airport (by car).

There is no beach.. lots of black lava rocks on the shoreline.. the SKB has 2 big outdoor pools, 1 which has a giant slide. You have to go on Alii Drive about 5-10 minutes for the closest beach. I like the White Sands Beach (look for Jameson By the Sea)... further down Alii Drive.

The road to SKB is ok by daylight, but after sunset, the access road is not lit (no lights). You may want to time your road trips to return to SKB before sunset.

Please check your room for ANTS... THEY BITE! (I submitted a review which may or may not appear -- it is 'under consideration')

TIP 1: You may want to buy your 'Hawaii' T-shirts in Waikiki... (Waikiki.. 6or7/~$20-21 ... Kona ~$10+ each!) There is a Wal-Mart, K-Mart (in Kailua - where all the highways intersect), but no deals on t-shirts!!

TIP 2: Reserve a car from Honolulu... Buy your Intra-Island connecting flight.. then ask for their car rental special rates! Apply for an AlohaPass or HawaiianAir pass - rack up some frequent flier miles (AlohaPass miles never expire)! 800# quote $43/day.. AlohaPass rate $27/day. Both Aloha Air and Hawaiian Air have ticket counters at Sears (ground level), Ala Moana Center, Honolulu.

There's not much to do around the SKB... you have to get away in the car... Kailua is 10-15 minutes away... other road trips: the Kohala Coast (north of the Kona Airport), Waimea, Volcano (2.5 hrs) and Hilo (3.5 hrs).

I hope this info helps you. Mahalo.

...adding to Aloha 2005's good tips:

Ah..yes Ants......

we have very few pests here.... very few mosquitos and flying bugs that look for you as a meal ( compared to the other islands in the Pacific.

but we do have Fire Ants..... tiny little buggers that bite like all get out and leave a welt for days.... the smaller the ant the bigger the bite might be a rule.
