Live music in bar setting that allows teenagers?

My sons are 16 and 13. My oldest is a bass player and is extremely interested in checking out all kinds of live music while we are there. Any recommendations of some places that we can sit and enjoy great music, that the kids would be allowed in? Bourbon St. area.

Cafe Beignet at Legends Park across from the Royal Sonesta(jazz)

Gazebo Cafe next to the park across the street from Margaritaville(Blues) on the weekends from noon until @ 5:-00

Buffa's for Sunday Brunch (Esplanade and Burgundy)..enter at the Burgundy door...very casual, local brunch with great little Dixieland Band..inexpensive..10:45 a.m. to get a table.

Walk up and down Royal St. and Jackson Square (lots of varied street musicians...be sure to tip if you stop for a few minutes)

LA law will not allow them into places with gambling devices of any sort...many clubs have them.

Kermit Ruffins Speakeasy is a restaurant (well, it is a Speakeasy, but they serve food!) so kids are allowed. He is a master of trad jazz and gives a great show. Look to see if he is playing (usually Sundays and Mondays).

Make sure you go to Preservation Hall too, yes it is worth the wait in line (no food or drinks available inside, just a fantastic 30-45minute set of Jazz).

Absolutely--- Preservation Hall. There is an admission fee BUT it's all about the music..no food no drinks www.preservationhall.com/hall/index.aspx

You can also hear the music on the street

Go over to Frenchmen Street where there are a number of music clubs offering a variety of live music from jazz, rock, folk, funk, blues to world. All clubs serve soft drinks as well as beer, wine, and cocktails and most have no cover charge. You can hear the music from the storefronts and if you hear something you like, go in. If you ever get a chance to see Jon Cleary at dba on Frenchmen, do it - . he's a blues musician who plays solo piano and sometimes electric guitar often on Thursday nights there and had toured with Bonnie Raitt for several years and last year toured with Dr. John.

A zydeco musician who often plays in the NOLA area worth checking out is Geno Delafose.

Thank you everybody, that helps alot! He loves music from Gary Clark Jr and Eric Clapton to Primus and Tool. So excited to show him where such great music originated!

You might also check the live music calendar on WWOZ's website

…WWOZ.ORG/new-orleans-community/music-calend… and then search by the dates you'll be in NOLA.

There should be lots of music samples on the internet and possibly YouTube videos with these musicians that can give you an idea of the type of music they play.
