This trip we may need to camp on a balcony on Bourbon at some point to watch the happenings below. What is your favorite bar that we can go "upstairs" and enjoy some cocktails or beers for a spell in the afternoon, early evening or around 9 or so? Is there a cover? In all our trips we have never experienced it. Any suggestions and directions are appreciated.
The Top of the Trop, (Tropical Isle at Orleans and Bourbon), has a good balcony and surprisingly small crowds up there. And, another plus, right next door to The Funky Pirate. ; )
KCK got it right...avoid Embers....balcony is rickety and tilted...or it sure looked tilted before drinking.
"Top of the Trop", the second floor of the Tropical Isle on Bourbon St at Orleans Ave. No cover and a view of both upper and lower Bourbon St and the back of the Cathedral. We usually go there in the afternoon or early evening, and are typically able to get a seat at a table on the balcony.
Thanks all. Thought the Tropical Isle might be the place. Interesting Cajunyank, we thought about the Embers, 'cause we can see it from the cam, but across the street looked better, and probably better for libations (plus I am rickety and tilted enough to begin with). Does one ask at the ground floor how to get there? Or just head to the back and look for the stairs? Or is there a big arrow? And is there table service once you are settled? Small crowds are what we are looking for.

When you go in Trop walk around the bar and follow it to the stairwell. Hope to CYA at Funky Pirate Friday. I will PM you my cell #
No table service at Tropical Isle; get your drinks from the 2nd floor bar. The second floor is not open during slow times (morning, Sunday or weekday early afternoons, ect.).
