Veggie Muffelleta |
|
Hi all. New to this forum thing. I would love to know where to get a yummy veggie muffelleta..and how to spell it. any ideas? ~veggielvr08 |

I'd had friends request veggie muffulettas at Napoleon House and Central Grocery, and they've been pretty good at accommodating their orders. Maspero's also offers a veggie muff, but I like to avoid that tourist trap.

veggielvr08, i just got your pm, but can't respond to them at work, so I'll link you to a bunch of things here. best muffelleta (for a vegetarian) is definitely Central Grocery, but only eat it if you REALLY love olives. other veggie restaurants (and their links with menus-you may have to cut and past them into your browser) Juans Flying Burrito-my favorite, so fresh and amazing.... www.juansflyingburrito.com/index.php?s=menu i love the fajitas, made with whatever veggies i want! Slim Goodies diner is just up from Juans...they have a pretty awesome vegetarian chili and in the mornings they do tofu scrambles...3322 Magazine St New Orleans, LA 70115 (504) 891-3447 call for thier hours cause they're kinda wacky. 13 Monaghan on Frenchman Street-There were more vegetarian options on the menu at the restaurant than posted online. I really liked a BBQ Tofu po'boy i had there, and my meat eating friends were not disappointed either (bonus! you can buy a gift certificate there on restaurant.com for cheeeeeap!) http://13monaghan.com/menu.php Muriels in Jackson Square: great grilled veggies and pasta dishes. The Avocado/Tomato salad is pretty awesome too. Lovely location and great history http://www.muriels.com/html/dinner.html Gumbo Shop-Gumbo shop has a daily vegetarian special and usually a vegan jambalaya. not a ton of choices but more authentic NoLa cuisine than most. gumboshop.com/restaurant_menu/restaurant_men… Angeli on Decatur-Mediterranean fare. Service can be spotty, but great pasta salad www.zagat.com/Verticals/Menu.aspx… Coops-love love looooooooooove Coops. great local spot, great staff (although some say service is spotty here too) and good veggie burger po'boy http://www.coopsplace.net/menu.html i'll try and think of more in between clients :o) -kel

New Orleans is the US capital of bizarre pronunciations, as you'll soon discover. A case in point is the word "muffuletta". To the best of my knowledge, the guys at Central Grocery are the only people in the city who even TRY to give the word an Italian spin. They say: moo-foo-LEH-tuh Everyone else in the city says: muff-uh-LAH-tuh. (Notice the different vowel sounds in the first and third syllables.) Go with the second pronunciation if you want to sound like a native.....or just ask for a "muff"!
