Birthday Trip With Fiance |
|
Hi All, I am planning to take my fiance to New Orleans for her birthday on the weekend of December 12th. We have been once before, but it was a partying trip and now I am looking for a more romantic trip. Any ideas on what to do and where to eat? I know it is hard to narrow it down. We are staying at the Omni Royal Orleans. Also, which Christmas events are the best to go to? Thank you for your help. |

Take an evening mule & buggy ride, go to either Bayona, Broussard's, Irene's, or Feelings Cafe, See www.fqfi.org for the calendar of events. We catch Big Al in the Santa's outfit each year, a cooking demonstration, the characters, and either the Washington Square or Jackson Square caroling.

We will also be down that weekend too...we are planning on doing the Garden District Holiday Home Tour...you get to tour inside 7 beautiful Garden District homes that are decorated for the holidays...we're really excited about this one...can't wait to finally see inside some of these beautiful homes:) We are also planning on visiting City Park for the Celebration in the Oaks...seems very festive-y you can find that on the website that another poster suggested.

We will be there that weekend, too, and we are doing the Garden District home tours, probably take a tour of the Beauregard-Keyes House, meet the historical characters in period dress, etc. There is a lot to do during December. I agree that a buggy ride around the French Quarter would be a romantic thing to do. We went last year and it was cold, but our buggy driver had a big blanket for us to use.

Galatois is old school New Orleans class, you must dress to dine here and I think that always adds an element of romance when your man will dress up a bit to take you out! Find a 2 person carriage ride as it's not quite as romantic if you're piled in with strangers! Stroll around Jackson Square and down Royal. I'd recommend the Christmas Garden District tours as well, we'll be there the weekend after you and that's high on my list!

I'll be there that weekend too, and I'm taking my husband for his first time (all those other times were my 'wild girls' trips). We're going to catch the Celebration in the Oaks, Ellis Marsalis at the St.Louis Cathedral (dec 14th). Jazz brunch at Muriels, and take a romantic street car ride past all the gorgeous mansions lit up at night (with cups of coffee from Cafe du Monde to warm us up). congrats on your engagement! -kelly

Thank you so much for all of the great replies. The Garden District tour looks great. So many restaurants to choose from which I am excited about. Thanks again.

kelly, I guess Dec is more of a couple-y time to go...I usually go for "girls" weekends too and like you, this time I'm bringing the hubby:) Have a great trip!!

dolmatt, isn't that funny? my husband has NEVER BEEN. IN the past year and a half I've been 8 times! Can you believe that?! I'm a little nervous that my DH won't be able to keep pace with me there ;o) -kel
