the best gumbo?

I know this is very subjective but, who has the best gumbo.

In or around the quarter? We will not be renting a car so; places within walking/trolly car from Quarter.

Thanks

My vote, if you're willing to take the Magazine Street bus and look at some antiques along the way, is Tee-Eva's on Magazine and Napoleon. It's not really a restaurant, more like a snowball stand. However, they do serve some soul food, and have the best gumbo that we've ever had outside of home (down in the swamps). Try it out, it's the best $5 you will ever spend!

I had gumbo at M B's on Royal Street and it was gorgeous. Mind you, having said that, almost everything I ate the whole time I was there was fab, so I'd probably vote for loads of places.

Mr. B's. The roux is as dark as it can get.

The deli in Zara's market, 2042 Prytania St. They have tables out front where you can sit and eat. You can couple this with a tour of the Garden District. Take the St. Charles streetcar, disembark on Josephine and walk 1 block south to Prytania. They only make the gumbo on Friday. They put everything you can imagine in it, and it is the best I've had anywhere in Louisiana.

Try the Gumbo Shop in the Quarter. My favorites are The Bon Ton (Magazine & Poydras); Christian's, and Sid Mar's in Bucktown. The last two will require taxis, however. Whenever I am in New Orleans, I go directly to Sid Mar's for a bowl of gumbo and half a dozen boiled crabs when in season. Oh, if you go to Christian's, try their smoked soft shell crab.

I love the gumbo at Liuzza's by the Track.

I went to Zara's today to try the gumbo, and it is very good. Lots of goodies in it, which is a nice plus.

I have been disappointed by Liuzza's by the track's Gumbo. To me, it's not really a traditional Gumbo. It's good, just needs another name.
