Hwy 441 closed through the park

The Mt. LeConte blog says that Hwy 441 has been closed through the park. They already have 6.5" of snow on the ground on Mt LeConte. My wife and I hiked up there last Thursday (Oct. 25) and it was gorgeous with clear skies and the temperature in the 60s. How quickly things can change!

I was reading their blog earlier this month and they predicted the first snow to be before Halloween.

According to the GSMNP website the road has just reopened. Anyone traveling should save this twitter address for updates.

We actually were on the mountain today and it was snowing between the Chimney Tops till past Newfound Gap. We had pulled over a few times and were turning around because it was getting bad and a Park Ranger approached us and told us they were closing the roads on the mountain and to head back where we were going. It was beautiful.. We headed back to Gatlinburg and they had The Road Closed Barricade up. When we had headed up only a flashing sign saying warning snow and ice was up. Clingman's Dome of course was closed. We saw 2 snow plows while we were headed back down.
