Favorite hikes in the area?

We're going to be renting near Two Harbors for 4-5 days but plan to make our way along 61 to hike many of the state parks and visit GM. Any recommendations on must see trails/parks along the way? We know about Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse but would like some longer hikes with waterfalls, etc.

Here's a few for starters -

Grand Portage State Park - right along the Canadian border. Easy paved

path & steps to the largest waterfall in the state, but then hike to the middle falls. Very peaceful, and you probably won't run into anyone else.

Hike to the highest point in Minnesota at Eagle Mountain. It's a 20 mile drive in from Grand Marais, and you'll actually be hiking into the Boundary Waters area, but get a free day pass at the trailhead. Look for the plaque on the rock at the top.

Five miles up the shore from Tofte is the Oberg Loop hike. Seven scenic vistas at the top.

Just south of Tofte is Temperence River state park. Hike along the river towards Carlton Peak. It reminds me of the movie, the River Runs Through It - very scenic.

A few miles up the shore from Grand Marais is Devils Track Canyon, the deepest gourge in Minnesota. It's interesting, but not as deep as you're probably thinking, but a fun hike.

I would add:

Tettegouche has some wonderful trails. I especially like the hike to the high falls and the hike out to shovel point. The hike up to the old logging camp is also quite fun. Make sure you also take the drive up to Pallisade Head (about 1-2 miles south of the main park) as it has outstanding views.

For right off the highway ease and beauty one cannot top the Temperance River Gorge hike.

The Split Rock River Loop Trail is a nice hike! Like it that you don't have to back track on the same trail.

Also, hiking on the Superior Hiking Trail is very fun. From the Lutsen area, you can hike up to Moose Mtn and then take the gondola ride down or vice versa.

You will love the area, it is one of my favorite places to visit.
