I'd re-post this on the New York City forum, because more people read it and there are a lot of Brooklynites on it.

Personally, I'm not too thrilled with that area if I was advising a newbie tourist. Too commercial, not at all touristy, too far from Manhattan for convenient sightseeing, and not the classiest area in general.

When you post on the NYC forum, specify your budget, dates, preferences, etc. The more specific the better.
