MD wines - best from a winery (which one?) or where to buy?!

Hi all - Can you buy Maryland's wines at the grocery or liquor stores?

I'll be driving around/sightseeing, and staying in between Frederick & Owings Mills. But, with the time I have, I think I'd prefer seeing the scenery rather than doing a winery stop. Or, if you had to pick just one winery to visit could you suggest just one? How long does a stop/visit usually take?

Thanks.

I recommend Black Ankle.

It's located between Frederick and Owings Mills in Mt. Airy, MD (actually north of Mt. Airy). Stop in for a tasting and buy a bottle of something you like. They're also available at liquor stores -- alcohol isnt sold in grocery stores in Maryland -- along with most of the bigger MD wineries.

IMHO, not a lot of Maryland wines are even average. May want to do a tasting before buying because tend to be expensive due to small volume. Take rt 26 to get between om and Frederick. Great ride and same time as highest. You will pass a winery just outside Frederick. Forget name but is a pleasant stop and maybe find something you like.
